Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Freedman.
Hi Molly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Photography has always been something I loved, but I never imagined it would grow into the business it is today. During the pandemic, I picked up my husband’s camera and started taking photos of my own kids just for fun. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into a passion.
In 2021, I booked my very first session. For the first two years, I photographed mostly for free while learning, growing, and finding my style. In 2023, I began offering “pay what you can” mini sessions to build my portfolio and gain experience. A year later, I finally took the leap and began charging set prices for my work.
In 2025, I launched my first kid ambassador contest, and it exceeded anything I could have imagined. The contest reached nearly 400,000 views in just one week and helped me grow by over 1,000 followers. Since then, my following has increased by more than 500%, my mini sessions regularly sell out, and I’m booking months in advance.
What started with a borrowed camera and photos of my own children has grown into a thriving business built on community, trust, and relationships. I’m incredibly grateful for every family that has trusted me to capture their memories, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t always been easy. My pay what you can era came with a lot of challenges. Because I wasn’t collecting deposits, I was frequently ghosted, canceled on, and had clients no-show for sessions. There were times I felt discouraged and even considered giving up altogether. Looking back now, those struggles taught me valuable lessons about both business and perseverance.
In 2025, while navigating family challenges, moving, and the heartbreaking loss of loved ones, my business faced its own obstacles. But through it all, my clients showed me incredible grace and support. They continued to believe in me, recommend me, and cheer me on. I truly would not be where I am today without them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in family and children’s photography, with a particular love for milestone sessions such as birthdays, cake smashes, and full family sessions. There’s something incredibly special about capturing moments that families will look back on for years to come.
I’m especially known for my micro and mini sessions, which I intentionally offer to help make professional photography accessible and affordable for families of all budgets. I believe everyone deserves beautiful memories, regardless of their financial situation.
What sets me apart is my commitment to providing quality work at a family-friendly price point. Photography is more than a business to me, it’s something I genuinely enjoy and pursue because I love preserving memories for others. Since I operate part-time, I have the flexibility to focus on creating meaningful experiences and delivering images families will treasure.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the growth of my business, but the community that has formed around it. The trust my clients place in me, the returning families I get to watch grow year after year, and the relationships I’ve built along the way are what make this work so rewarding. Seeing families come back milestone after milestone is the greatest compliment I could receive as a photographer.
What does success mean to you?
To me, success isn’t measured solely by numbers or income. it’s measured by the impact I have on the families I serve and the relationships I build along the way. Success is having returning clients who trust me to capture their most important milestones year after year. It’s seeing families smile when they receive their galleries and knowing I’ve preserved memories they’ll cherish forever.
As a part-time photographer and mom, success also means maintaining a balance between growing my business and being present for my family. The fact that my sessions regularly sell out, I’m booking months in advance, and my business has grown largely through word-of-mouth and client support is something I’m incredibly grateful for.
Most of all, success means creating a business rooted in passion, affordability, and community one that allows me to do what I love while making photography accessible to families from all walks of life.
