Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Abdelaziz and Kaela Bumbico.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We both started out at commission salons for a period of time before deciding to rent suites and go independent. We worked in the same building for years, but quickly outgrew our suites and wanted something bigger, more permanent. A space that suited both our clients needs and our own.
One day we had stumbled upon this building just down the road in royal oak and knew it was time. The space was big enough for us bring on 2 more stylists, and luckily we knew a few women at our salon suites that were looking for a new salon home. Everything fell into place so naturally, and we’re incredibly grateful for how it all came together!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business always comes with challenges, but that’s not how we would define our journey. Getting the salon up and running, passing inspections, getting correct licensing definitely came with a few headaches, but it was nothing we couldn’t handle.
I’d also like to point out that Kaela was 7 months pregnant at the time and also moving into a new home, and she handled it all so gracefully. At the end of the day I think each obstacle has helped shape us into better business owners and leaders
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We both specialize in women’s hair, the primary focus being mostly dimensional and lived in colors, while Kaela also offers extensions. What we’re most proud of is creating a space where women like ourselves can come to relax and unwind in an elevated, welcoming environment.
I’m also incredibly proud of the online community I’ve built. My presence on social media has played a huge role in my career, it’s opened doors to new opportunities and has allowed me to connect with clients in more ways. Social media has become an essential part of my journey and one of the ways I’ve been able to grow both personally and professionally.
We also love being able to provide other hairstylists with the opportunity for true work-life balance by offering flexibility and maternity leave. Creating a salon culture that supports women in every stage of life is something that means a lot to us.
What does success mean to you?
For us, success is closely tied to freedom. We know that many women feel they have to choose between being full-time workers and being present for their families. We’ve been intentional about building our business around creating another option.
By offering maternity leave and flexible, part-time schedules, we’ve created a system where women don’t have to choose one or the other. Women like us can have the freedom that comes with providing for their families while also being present to enjoy them. To us, that balance is success
