Meet Jazzy Rippy of LADIES IN LAW®

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzy Rippy.

Hi Jazzy Rippy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
LADIES IN LAW® was founded by the two of us, Attorneys Jazzy Rippy and Ameena Sheikh, after we met while practicing at a large law firm in downtown Detroit. Although we received exceptional legal training there, we quickly realized that our passion was not using the law to solve problems after they occurred—it was helping families avoid those problems altogether. That realization ultimately led us to leave the traditional law firm model behind and create something different.

In 2019, we launched LADIES IN LAW® with a simple mission: to make Estate Planning accessible, understandable, and attainable for everyday families. We saw too many people postponing important planning because they thought Wills and Trusts were only for the wealthy, too complicated, or something that could wait until later. We wanted to change that narrative and make protecting your family feel approachable rather than intimidating.

Our passion for this work is deeply personal. Jazzy witnessed firsthand how families can be torn apart through probate disputes, while Ameena saw the importance of proper planning for loved ones with special needs. Those experiences shaped our belief that Estate Planning is one of the greatest gifts a person can leave behind—not just financially, but emotionally as well.

Over the years, LADIES IN LAW® has grown from a small startup into a recognized Michigan Estate Planning law firm that has helped thousands of individuals and families with Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Probate matters, Special Needs Planning, and Asset Protection strategies. Along the way, we’ve been honored to receive industry recognition, speak throughout the community, and build a team that shares our commitment to client education and exceptional service.

Today, we continue to focus exclusively on Estate Planning because we believe families deserve attorneys who are true specialists in the field. While the firm has grown tremendously since 2019, our goal remains exactly the same: helping people protect what they’ve built, the people they love, and the legacy they want to leave behind.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Like most entrepreneurial journeys, ours has been filled with challenges, pivots, and a lot of learning along the way.

When we started LADIES IN LAW®, we were building a law firm from the ground up without a roadmap. We were learning how to be business owners while simultaneously serving clients, building systems, creating processes, marketing our services, and managing the countless responsibilities that come with running a growing company.

One of the biggest challenges was earning trust in a traditionally conservative industry. As two young female attorneys launching a modern law firm, we often had to prove ourselves before people would take us seriously. We knew we wanted to do things differently by making Estate Planning more approachable, educational, and client-focused, but introducing a different way of practicing law came with its own set of obstacles.

Like many small businesses, we also faced the realities of entrepreneurship—economic uncertainty, growing pains, staffing challenges, long hours, and the pressure that comes with being responsible for both your team and your clients. There were certainly moments when things felt overwhelming.

At the same time, some of our greatest growth came from navigating personal experiences that reinforced the importance of the work we do every day. Witnessing families struggle through probate, seeing the impact of inadequate planning, and helping clients through some of the most difficult moments of their lives continually reminded us why we started this firm in the first place.

Looking back, we wouldn’t describe the journey as smooth, but we would describe it as incredibly rewarding. Every challenge helped shape the firm we are today. Those experiences made us better attorneys, better business owners, and better advocates for the families we serve.

One of the lessons we’ve learned is that success is rarely about avoiding obstacles—it’s about staying committed to your mission through them. We remain passionate about helping Michigan families protect their loved ones through Estate Planning, Wills, Trusts, Probate guidance, and legacy planning, and we are grateful for every challenge that helped us get here.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LADIES IN LAW®?
LADIES IN LAW® is a Michigan law firm that focuses exclusively on Estate Planning. We help individuals, families, business owners, and parents create comprehensive plans that protect their loved ones, preserve their assets, and provide peace of mind for the future.

What makes us different is that we are not a law firm that “also does” Estate Planning. Estate Planning is all we do.

In fact, one of the things that sets us apart most is that our focus is on helping families avoid court involvement whenever possible. While many firms spend a significant portion of their practice handling Probate Court matters, our passion is helping clients create plans that keep their loved ones out of court in the first place. We believe the best probate case is the one that never has to happen.

Through properly designed Revocable Living Trusts, Wills, Powers of Attorney, Special Needs Planning, Asset Protection strategies, and business succession planning, we help clients proactively address issues before they become problems. Our goal is not simply to prepare legal documents—it’s to create customized plans that work when families need them most.

We are also incredibly proud of the brand we have built. When we founded LADIES IN LAW®, we wanted to challenge the traditional perception of a law firm. We envisioned a firm that was modern, approachable, educational, and welcoming while still providing exceptional legal counsel. We wanted clients to feel comfortable asking questions, understand their options, and leave feeling empowered rather than intimidated.

Perhaps what we’re most proud of is the impact we’ve had on changing the conversation around Estate Planning. Too many people believe Estate Planning is only for the wealthy, elderly, or those facing a health crisis. The reality is that every adult should have a plan in place. We have dedicated our careers to educating families about the importance of planning ahead and helping them protect the people they love most.

If there is one thing we want readers to know, it’s this: Estate Planning is not about preparing for death—it’s about protecting life. It’s about making things easier for the people you care about, preserving family harmony, protecting children, safeguarding assets, and creating a legacy that reflects your values. That mission is at the heart of everything we do at LADIES IN LAW®.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is that success is built through consistency, not perfection.

When we first started LADIES IN LAW®, it was easy to look at established firms and think we needed to have everything figured out before taking the next step. Over time, we realized that growth doesn’t happen because you have the perfect plan—it happens because you continue showing up, learning, adapting, and moving forward even when things aren’t perfect.

As business owners, we’ve learned that challenges are inevitable. Markets change, technology changes, client expectations evolve, and obstacles arise when you least expect them. The businesses that thrive are not necessarily the ones that avoid challenges, but the ones that remain committed to their mission through them.

We’ve also learned the importance of staying true to who you are. There is a lot of pressure in business to follow trends or do things the way they’ve always been done. Some of our best decisions came from trusting our instincts and building a firm that reflected our own values—one centered on education, relationships, accessibility, and genuine client care.

Most importantly, we’ve learned that the work we do is about people, not paperwork. Every Estate Plan represents a family, a story, and a legacy. Every client who walks through our doors is trusting us with some of the most important decisions they will ever make. Never losing sight of that responsibility has shaped every decision we’ve made as attorneys and business owners.

If we could share one lesson with others, it would be this: focus on serving people well, stay committed to your purpose, and don’t let the pursuit of perfection prevent you from taking action. Consistent effort over time is what creates meaningful results.
