Meet Shar Michele & Syd Renee of Dorothy’s Pearl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shar Michele & Syd Renee.

Hi Shar Michele & Syd Renee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Dorothy’s Pearl began as the vision of me (Shar) and my mom. What started as a conversation while watching tv evolved into a mobile boutique and eventually grew into a fully trademarked brand. As the business expanded, my daughter, Syd, joined me and we became a mother-daughter team. Syd designs our handbags, while I oversee the marketing and apparel side of the business.

In 2022, our family was forever changed when my sister was diagnosed with leukemia. Her journey inspired us to focus more intentionally on raising awareness for blood cancers and disorders. After her passing in 2024, God transformed our grief into purpose.

Today, we have stepped away from the mobile boutique aspect of our business and are dedicated to using fashion as a platform for something greater. Through our designs and our message, we strive to create meaningful conversations, raise awareness, and cultivate support and encouragement for those navigating life’s challenges.

At the heart of Dorothy’s Pearl is the belief that no one should feel less than, and no one should have to walk through difficult seasons alone. We encourage self-love, confidence, and community because we believe every person is rare, valuable, and worthy of support. More than a brand, Dorothy’s Pearl is a reflection of faith, love, and the purpose God can bring from even the most painful experiences.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, we’ve had to pivot several times, navigate rebranding, adapt to changing economic conditions and constantly reassess what makes the most sense for the future of the brand.

There have been moments when we’ve questioned our next move and days when the frustration was so high that we had to cry and take a nap. Sometimes you have to just feel it, process it, then keep it moving. But that’s part of the reality of entrepreneurship. Building a business comes with both joys and challenges, and we’ve experienced plenty of both.

Through every obstacle, we’ve learned the importance of flexibility, perseverance, and trusting God’s direction. Some of our biggest challenges have ultimately led us to greater clarity and purpose. While the journey hasn’t always been easy, it has been meaningful, and we wouldn’t trade the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dorothy’s Pearl is a lifestyle brand specializing in conversational apparel and accessories designed to spark connection, cultivate support, and encourage self-love and awareness. While our eyewear initially captured attention and our handbags have become what many people recognize us for today, we are much more than a handbag brand. We have apparel that speaks to self love awareness and support. Every piece we create is intended to make a statement and inspire meaningful conversations.

What sets us apart is that we are a mission-first brand. We are focused on creating impact, not just creating products. Rather than chasing trends or copying what everyone else is doing, we stay true to who we are and the purpose behind Dorothy’s Pearl. Authenticity has always been at the center of everything we do.

We are especially passionate about building a community rather than simply acquiring customers. We want people to feel seen, supported, and reminded that they are never alone in whatever challenges they may be facing. Through fashion, we aim to encourage confidence, self-love, and greater awareness for blood cancers and disorders.

What we are most proud of is that Dorothy’s Pearl has become more than a brand it has become a platform for purpose. Knowing that our designs can bring encouragement, start important conversations, and remind others of their worth, is far more meaningful to us than simply being known for a product.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Both of us are usually reading multiple books at once.

Syd loves literary fiction and enjoys getting lost in a good story to relax and recharge. Shar tends to balance faith, business, and branding books. Some favorites include the Bible, Think and Grow Rich, Contagious, and I Am My Brand.

When it comes to podcasts, Shar will listen to just about anything featuring David Shands. She also enjoys Serve and Spill with Deanna and Krystina.

And while we haven’t officially met, Milan Harris is definitely Shar’s mentor in her mind. We’re pretty sure she doesn’t know that yet, but we’re claiming it anyway. 😂
