Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Anthony Kellum.
Hi Dr. Anthony, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been built around a simple belief Property is Power! I have always understood that ownership creates opportunities, builds wealth, and gives individuals and families greater control over their future.
Early in my career, I recognized that many people viewed homeownership and real estate investment as something beyond their reach. Too often, they lacked access to the information, resources, and guidance necessary to move from renting to owning, or from owning a home to building an investment portfolio. I made it my mission to help change that.
That mission led me into the mortgage industry, where I dedicated myself to helping individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and investors navigate the financing process with confidence. Over the years, I have worked with first-time homebuyers, seasoned real estate investors, and business owners, helping them leverage real estate as a tool for financial growth and long-term stability.
Today, as the owner of Kellum Mortgage, LLC, my work extends beyond originating loans. I am passionate about educating communities, promoting financial literacy, and creating pathways to ownership. Whether through lending, speaking engagements, workshops, or community outreach, my goal is to help people understand that property is more than a place to live it is a foundation for wealth creation, economic empowerment, and generational impact.
My story continues to evolve, but my purpose remains the same: helping people recognize that Property is Power and empowering them to use that power to transform their lives, strengthen their families, and build stronger communities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Here’s a strong, personal response that ties together your mission, the 2008 housing crash, your banking relationships, and your commitment to homeownership:
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Like many people in the mortgage and real estate industry, one of the biggest challenges I faced was navigating the housing crisis of 2008. That period changed the industry forever. Lending guidelines tightened, financial institutions became more cautious, and many families saw their dreams of homeownership put at risk. It was a difficult time, but it reinforced something I had always believed: homeownership matters, and helping families achieve it is worth fighting for.
Throughout my career, I have faced market shifts, economic uncertainty, changing regulations, and periods when access to capital became increasingly difficult. Building a mortgage company and maintaining strong lending relationships requires persistence, credibility, and trust. One of the keys to overcoming these challenges has been developing banking relationships with institutions that understand my mission and share my belief that responsible homeownership can transform lives and strengthen communities.
There have been obstacles along the way, but each challenge has made me more committed to my purpose. My mission has always been simple, Property is Power. I believe ownership creates stability, opportunity, and wealth-building potential that can impact generations. That belief continues to drive me every day.
What keeps me motivated is working directly with borrowers and helping them make homeownership a meaningful part of their lives. Whether it’s a first-time homebuyer receiving the keys to their first home, a family refinancing to improve their financial position, or an investor building a portfolio that creates long-term wealth, those moments remind me why I do this work.
The challenges have been real, but they have also provided some of the most valuable lessons of my career. They taught me resilience, the importance of strong partnerships, and the value of staying focused on a mission that is bigger than any single transaction. Every obstacle has strengthened my commitment to helping individuals and families achieve ownership and use real estate as a tool for building a better future.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Kellum Mortgage, LLC?
One of the things I am most proud of is the launch of our **Property is Power** seminar series, an initiative that reflects the heart of our mission and the future of our company. Over the coming months, we will be rolling out these seminars across 11 markets, creating opportunities for aspiring homeowners to receive the education, guidance, and resources they need to achieve homeownership.
The Property is Power seminars are designed to do more than simply discuss mortgages. They are comprehensive homeownership education events where attendees can learn the homebuying process, understand the financial benefits of ownership, discover available loan programs, improve their readiness to purchase, and gain insight into how real estate can be used as a tool for building long-term wealth.
What makes these events unique is that education is immediately connected to action. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet directly with mortgage professionals, ask questions, receive guidance on their specific situations, and even begin the qualification process on-site. In many cases, potential homebuyers can complete an application and take the first steps toward homeownership before leaving the event.
I believe this initiative has the potential to become one of the largest homeownership education and mortgage origination platforms in the country. Our goal is to reach thousands of individuals and families who may not know where to begin or who believe homeownership is beyond their reach. By bringing education, resources, and lending professionals directly into communities, we can help remove barriers and create new pathways to ownership.
At its core, the Property is Power seminar series represents what our brand stands for: empowering people through knowledge, creating opportunities through ownership, and helping families build a stronger financial future. It is a movement built on the belief that when people understand the power of property ownership, they are better positioned to transform their lives, build wealth, and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is growing up during the late 1970s, a time when life seemed simpler and communities felt more connected. Some of my best memories were spent outside with my friends from morning until the streetlights came on. We rode our bikes through the neighborhood, played pickup games, explored the community, and created our own adventures without the distractions of technology. Those experiences taught me the value of friendship, independence, and being part of a community.
Another memory that had a lasting impact on me was working alongside my father on his rental properties. At the time, I probably didn’t realize how much I was learning, but those experiences would eventually help shape my future. Whether it was helping with repairs, cleaning units, maintaining properties, or simply observing how ownership worked, I was getting an early education in real estate, responsibility, and entrepreneurship.
Looking back, those moments taught me lessons that still guide me today. I learned that ownership comes with responsibility, that hard work creates opportunities, and that taking pride in what you own matters. Watching my father manage his properties showed me firsthand how real estate could create stability and opportunity for a family.
In many ways, those childhood experiences planted the seeds for what would later become my professional mission. The values I learned growing up hard work, ownership, community, and responsibility are the same values that drive my belief today that Property is Power. They helped shape not only my career in the mortgage industry but also my passion for helping others achieve the benefits of homeownership and real estate investment.
