Check Out Andrew Warren’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Warren.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved music. Ever since I was young, music was just something that stuck with me and became a part of who I am. No matter where I was or what was going on, music always had a way of catching my attention, inspiring me, and making me feel connected. My musical journey actually started with the drums before I ever picked up a saxophone. Playing drums helped me develop rhythm, timing, and a deeper appreciation for music, and over time that love naturally led me to the saxophone.
In the beginning, I was just learning the basics — notes, rhythms, tone, and how to really play the instrument. I spent a lot of time practicing, listening to other musicians, and trying to improve every day. At first, I didn’t think of it as building a brand or a future career; I simply enjoyed playing and expressing myself through music.
As time went on, I started performing more at church, school events, concerts, and community programs. Those experiences helped me grow in confidence and showed me that music could truly impact people emotionally. I noticed that people started recognizing me as “Drew, the guy who plays sax,” and eventually that became the inspiration behind the name “Drew Play Sax.”
The journey definitely hasn’t been perfect or easy. There were moments where I doubted myself, felt nervous before performances, or wondered if I was good enough. But every performance, rehearsal, and challenge helped me grow stronger both musically and personally. I learned that consistency, passion, and dedication matter just as much as talent.
Over time, I started thinking bigger than just playing music. I wanted “Drew Play Sax” to represent creativity, faith, professionalism, and positive energy. That led me into creating logos, branding ideas, performances, collaborations, social media content, and planning for future projects like concerts and productions.
Today, I’m still growing as both a musician and a creator. I’m continuing to learn, improve, and push myself to become better every day. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how something that started with a love for music and playing drums turned into such a huge part of my life and future goals. And honestly, I feel like this is only the beginning of the story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes and no. I’ve definitely faced my share of challenges along the way, even if they’ve helped shape me in the long run. There have been times where I felt like I wasn’t really improving — like I was stuck at the same level and couldn’t seem to break through to the next stage in my growth as a musician. That feeling can be discouraging because you’re putting in the work, practicing, and pushing yourself, but it doesn’t always feel like the results are matching the effort. At moments like that, it honestly felt a little defeating and made me question my progress.
On top of that, I’ve also had to deal with outside opinions from people saying I was overrated or not as good as others made me out to be. Hearing that kind of criticism, especially repeatedly, can definitely weigh on you more than people realize. Even if you try not to take it personally, it still creates doubt in the back of your mind and can shake your confidence a bit.
But at the same time, those experiences also pushed me to grow tougher mentally and stay focused on my own path. Instead of letting those moments define me, I’ve learned to use them as motivation to keep improving, stay consistent, and prove to myself — not others — how far I can go.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a saxophonist, and developing music producer, and my work focuses on bringing energy, emotion, and connection through both live performance and hands-on sound work. I started my musical journey on drums, which gave me a strong foundation in rhythm, timing, and structure. That eventually led me to saxophone, where I found my main voice as a performer and began building my identity as an artist.
What I specialize in most is live performance — especially in church settings, school events, and community or special occasions. I’m known for playing with feeling and energy, whether it’s a powerful worship moment, a smooth melodic solo, or something upbeat that lifts the atmosphere. Over time, that consistency and presence helped shape the name and brand “Drew Play Sax.”

Alongside performing, I’ve also grown into the production and sound side of music. At church and events, I often work with sound — setting up speakers, helping manage audio, and making sure everything sounds clean and balanced for the environment. On top of that, I’ve been learning how to produce music more intentionally, developing an understanding of how sounds are built, layered, and shaped. That hands-on experience has helped me see music from a different perspective — not just as a performer, but as someone who helps create and support the full sound experience.

What I’m most proud of isn’t just the performances or technical growth, but the journey behind it. I’m proud that I’ve stayed consistent even during times when I felt stuck or unsure of my progress. There have been moments of doubt and outside criticism, but I’ve learned to use those experiences as motivation to keep improving instead of stepping back.

What sets me apart is that I’m involved in multiple parts of music — not just performing, but also understanding rhythm from drums, melody from saxophone, and the technical side of sound and production. I don’t just focus on playing music; I focus on making sure the entire sound experience is strong, whether I’m on stage or behind the scenes. My goal is always to create something authentic, impactful, and memorable in every space I’m a part of.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m really a by-ear learner, so I naturally pick things up by listening and watching rather than reading sheet music. If I see something on Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube that catches my attention, I’ll grab my instrument and start trying to replicate it. From there, I focus on understanding how it’s built, and then I experiment with it until I can reshape it into my own style and sound.
