Meet Pam Talluto of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pam Talluto.

Hi Pam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always loved photography. Even when I was young, I was drawn to capturing moments and noticing beauty in everyday things. But like many people, my career path initially took me in a different direction. I worked a string of clerical and retail jobs that never felt fulfilling. Creativity was always there in the background but I never imagined photography would one day become my career.

Everything changed in late winter of 2020 when my daughter, who is a real estate agent, asked if I would photograph a home she was listing for the MLS. It started simply as a favor for her. I had photography experience, some good gear and an eye for aesthetics, so I was happy to help. After the listing went live, agents in her office started noticing the photos and asking who had taken them. One referral turned into another and before I knew it, things began to snowball.

By February 2021, I had officially filed for my DBA, built a website and launched my business! What started unexpectedly has grown into something I truly love and feel proud of.

As my business grew, so did my curiosity and desire to expand my skills. I became interested in aerial photography and earned my FAA Part 107 Drone License on October 15, 2021, allowing me to professionally capture aerial imagery. Since floor plans are frequently requested by real estate agents, I learned to provide those early on as well. More recently, I’ve added virtual services including staging, twilight images and decluttering to help listings stand out even more.

Today, I run a thriving photography business specializing in real estate photography for MLS listings, AirBnB properties and commercial spaces. I also create photography for kitchen and bathroom renovators to use on websites and social media. I genuinely enjoy helping clients showcase spaces in their best possible light and creating images that feel polished, welcoming and visually appealing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, although I feel very fortunate that my business grew organically through referrals and word of mouth.

One of the biggest challenges has been the constant learning curve. I wasn’t just learning real estate photography. I was learning how to run a business, build a website, market myself, manage scheduling, communicate with clients, invoice, edit efficiently and continually adapt to changing technology.

Photography is an industry that evolves quickly. Equipment changes, editing software improves, drones became increasingly important and now AI and virtual services are changing the landscape even more. I’ve had to be willing to keep learning and step outside my comfort zone. Whether it was learning new editing techniques, studying for my drone license, adding floor plans or offering new virtual services, I’ve tried to stay open and adaptable.

Another challenge has simply been wearing all the hats that come with being a one-person business. Since it’s just me, I handle everything from scheduling and communication to photography, editing and final delivery. There are definitely long days but I also enjoy the independence and take pride in creating a reliable and consistent experience for my clients.

Real estate can also be unpredictable. Weather changes, seasonal slowdowns, tight timelines and last-minute requests are all part of the business. Over time, I’ve learned to be flexible, solution-oriented and calm under pressure.

Looking back, I think the challenges have made me better. They’ve pushed me to keep learning, improving and growing, not just as a photographer but as a business owner.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in real estate photography for MLS listings, AirBnB properties and commercial spaces, as well as content photography for kitchen and bathroom renovators who use images for websites and social media. My goal is always the same: to help spaces look their absolute best while feeling authentic and inviting.

I’m known for having a strong eye for aesthetics and detail. I genuinely enjoy the creative side of photography, paying attention to composition, lighting, angles and editing to create images that feel warm, polished and visually appealing. I want buyers or potential clients to look at a photo and immediately feel drawn in.

I offer a full range of services including interior and exterior photography, aerial drone photography as an FAA Part 107 licensed drone pilot, floor plans and virtual add-ons such as virtual staging, virtual twilight images and decluttering.

Since my business is just me, I personally handle every part of the process from scheduling and communication to shooting, editing and final delivery. I think that personal involvement creates consistency and trust. My clients know exactly who they’re working with and what to expect.

What I’m most proud of is the reputation I’ve built for reliability and care. Beautiful images matter, of course, but I believe good business is also about professionalism, communication, responsiveness and making the experience easy and stress-free for clients. I genuinely care that my clients are happy with both the process and the final product.

What sets me apart is the combination of creativity and dependability. I care deeply about the artistic side of my work but I also understand the business side: showing up on time, communicating clearly, delivering consistently and always striving to improve. I’m constantly learning and trying to be just a little better than I was yesterday.

What does success mean to you?
Success has changed for me over the years. Earlier in life, I probably would have defined it more by achievement or productivity but today I see it differently.

For me, success means building a business I genuinely enjoy, doing work I feel proud of and serving my clients well. It means continuing to grow creatively, always improving my skills and building a reputation for being reliable, professional and easy to work with.

But success also means balance. One of the things I appreciate most about owning my own business is the flexibility and independence it gives me. Family is incredibly important to me and I’m thankful that we all live close together and get to see each other often. My husband, son and daughter-in-law, daughter and two grandsons are a huge part of my life. Being available for family dinners, holidays, get-togethers, babysitting, school events or simply spending time together means everything to me.

To me, success isn’t about being the biggest business or constantly chasing more. It’s about creating meaningful work, maintaining strong relationships, being available for the people I love and feeling grateful for the life I’ve built. Hearing from happy clients who trust me and continue to come back feels like success too.

I also believe success means never becoming stagnant. I’m always striving to improve, learn new things and grow, both personally and professionally. For me, success is building a life that feels meaningful, balanced and aligned with what matters most.
