Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani Thomas.
Hi Imani, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into entrepreneurship started with a passion for storytelling, community, and helping businesses grow through digital marketing. As a Detroit native and graduate of the University of Michigan, I’ve always been interested in the intersection of creativity, strategy, and impact. Over the past decade, I’ve built a career in content strategy and social media marketing, working with more than 200 businesses ranging from small startups to major corporations with multi-million-dollar marketing budgets.
I founded iSocialPR to help brands create authentic connections with their audiences and generate real results through strategic marketing. Through the agency, I’ve helped clients generate over $11 million in sales through social media campaigns, digital strategy, and content marketing.
My entrepreneurial journey hasn’t been linear. In 2022, while pregnant with my son, I experienced a difficult pregnancy and spent a lot of time navigating health challenges while also trying to run my business. After my son was born, he faced health complications that required frequent hospital visits, which forced me to slow down and reevaluate everything. Around the same time, I also went through major personal transitions that challenged me both emotionally and professionally.
Those experiences ultimately reshaped my purpose as an entrepreneur. Instead of focusing solely on growth, I became more intentional about building businesses rooted in community, inclusion, and economic empowerment. That mindset also inspired me to launch The Black Sip, a wine subscription and event company focused on highlighting women- and minority-owned vineyards while creating more inclusive spaces in the wine industry.
Today, I continue to grow both companies while balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. My mission is to help businesses tell their stories in meaningful ways, create opportunities for underrepresented communities, and show other women that it’s possible to rebuild, pivot, and thrive through every season of life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I think the challenges are what shaped me into the entrepreneur and leader I am today. Entrepreneurship can look glamorous from the outside, but there were many moments that tested my resilience, faith, and ability to adapt.
One challenge has been operating in industries where women — especially Black women — are often underestimated. Whether in marketing, tech, or wine and spirits, I’ve had to work twice as hard to prove my expertise and create opportunities that weren’t always readily available to me. But instead of allowing that to discourage me, it pushed me to create platforms and businesses that are intentionally inclusive and community-focused.
The positive side is that those struggles taught me how to pivot, become more intentional, and build businesses with stronger foundations. They also deepened my sense of purpose. Today, I approach entrepreneurship differently — with more balance, clarity, and focus on impact rather than just growth alone.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m the founder of iSocialPR, a digital marketing and content strategy agency focused on helping brands grow through authentic storytelling, strategic advertising, and community-driven marketing. We specialize in social media strategy, content creation, paid advertising, email marketing, brand development, and campaign execution for businesses ranging from startups to established organizations.
What sets us apart is that we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all marketing. A lot of agencies focus only on trends or vanity metrics, but we focus on building strategies that actually connect with people and drive measurable results. Over the years, we’ve helped clients generate millions in sales through intentional campaigns that prioritize both visibility and conversion. We also stay extremely current with digital trends, platform changes, and consumer behavior, which allows us to help brands stay relevant in fast-changing online spaces.
Another thing that makes our work unique is our emphasis on representation and community impact. I’ve always been passionate about helping underrepresented businesses and founders gain visibility and access to opportunities that may not traditionally be available to them. That mission extends into my second company, The Black Sip, which is a wine subscription and event company dedicated to highlighting women- and minority-owned vineyards and making wine culture more inclusive and approachable.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the fact that both businesses were built with purpose at the center. Whether I’m helping a client scale their business through marketing or creating experiences that expose people to diverse winemakers and entrepreneurs, my goal is always to create connection, education, and economic empowerment.
I also want readers to know that our brands are rooted in authenticity. We genuinely care about the people and communities we serve. We’re not just focused on selling a service or hosting an event — we’re focused on creating experiences, opportunities, and long-term impact. That’s something I hope people feel whenever they interact with my businesses.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One resource that has had a major impact on both my personal and professional life is the book How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It completely changed the way I approach communication, relationship-building, leadership, and business. So much of entrepreneurship comes down to understanding people, creating genuine connections, and learning how to communicate with empathy and confidence, and that book really reinforced those principles for me.
I’ve found that many of the strategies in the book still apply today, even in the digital marketing world. Whether I’m building client relationships, networking, leading campaigns, or growing communities online, the ability to make people feel seen, heard, and valued is incredibly important.
I’m also constantly learning through social media trends, marketing newsletters, podcasts, and online communities because the digital space changes so quickly. Staying adaptable and curious has been one of the biggest keys to my growth both as a business owner and as a person.
