Today we’d like to introduce you to Nur Shah.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started taking pictures on Instagram in high school just like everyone else, and it turned out I really loved it. I was the girl who would get fully dressed up, do a full glam makeup look, and take photos just to go absolutely nowhere. It was fun for me.
I’ve always been a very creative person. Growing up, I watched America’s Next Top Model religiously, so fashion, beauty, and photography felt natural. I taught myself how to sew, knit, and make jewelry. When I didn’t have money for beads, I literally made them out of paper. I’ve always been the type to figure things out and create something from nothing.
As the oldest of seven kids, a lot of my childhood looked different from everyone else’s. I wasn’t really out hanging out with friends or doing typical teenage things. Most of my time was spent at home helping take care of the house and my younger siblings. Because of that, fashion, beauty, and creating things became my escape. It was something that belonged to me. A way to express myself and have my own identity outside of responsibilities.
When my Instagram started growing and I hit around 5,000–6,000 followers, people started calling me an influencer. I actually used to get annoyed and tell people, “I’m not an influencer!” Looking back, I have no idea why I took such offense to it. I genuinely wasn’t trying to build a brand or become a creator. I was just posting because I enjoyed it.
Then brands started reaching out wanting to send me PR, and that was probably the first time I thought, “Okay, maybe this is actually something.” From there I started taking content creation a little more seriously. What began as a creative hobby eventually turned into a part-time career, but at its core it’s still the same thing it was when I started: a creative outlet that I genuinely enjoy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
like a struggle to me because it started as an escape. It was something I genuinely enjoyed and looked forward to. If anything, the biggest challenge was finding time for it.
As the oldest of seven children, I spent a lot of my childhood helping take care of the house and my younger siblings. I wasn’t always able to go out, socialize, or have the same experiences as other kids my age. Between family responsibilities, school, work, and later adulthood, content creation was something I often had to fit into the cracks of my schedule.
Another challenge was learning to take myself seriously. For years, I treated it as just a hobby. Even when people started calling me an influencer and brands began reaching out, I didn’t really see it as something I could pursue professionally. It took time to realize that something I enjoyed doing for fun could actually become a business.
More than anything, my journey has been about balancing responsibilities while making room for creativity. Content creation has always been the thing that allowed me to express myself, and that’s why I’ve continued doing it all these years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create fashion and beauty content through my lens as a hijabi, sharing everything from styling and modest fashion to beauty, confidence, and self-expression. While fashion and beauty have always been the foundation of my content, I’ve recently started opening up more and sharing pieces of my everyday life as well.
Four months ago, I became a mom, and that experience shifted my perspective. I realized how important it is to capture memories, not just perfectly curated photos. I’ve started sharing more family moments, mini vlogs, and glimpses into my life beyond fashion, allowing my audience to grow with me through different seasons of life.
What I’m most proud of is building a community by simply being myself. I’ve never tried to fit into a particular mold or create a version of myself for the internet. What sets me apart is my authenticity. Whether I’m sharing a fashion look, a beauty routine, or a moment from my day, what people see online is genuinely who I am. I think people connect with that honesty, and that’s something I’ve always tried to protect as my platform has grown.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my husband, my daughter, and my confidence.
Confidence might seem like an unusual answer, but it’s honestly the thing that has allowed me to become who I am. My confidence gives me the ability to pursue my dreams, live authentically as myself, take risks, and go after things that might seem impossible to other people. It’s the reason I’ve been able to put myself out there creatively, start new ventures, and continue growing into the person I want to be.
My husband is my greatest support system. I know that sounds cliché, but it’s true.. My husband is the first person who has ever made me feel truly seen. He makes me feel like I’m the only person in the room, and after all these years he is still my best friend.
And then there’s my daughter. She is only four months old, but she is already the greatest gift I’ve ever received. She is the product of the deepest, most genuine love I’ve ever experienced. Becoming her mother has given me a new perspective on life, family, and what truly matters. Every day I look at her and feel incredibly grateful that I get to be part of her story.
At the end of the day, everything I do comes back to those three things: my family, my confidence, and building a life that feels authentic to who I am.
