Meet LaTia Flewellyn of Epiphany 313

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTia Flewellyn.

Hi LaTia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My entrepreneurial journey has been very unconventional. In 2023, I originally came across Epiphany 313 while searching for a location to build out my spa concept. At the time, I had already been a licensed massage therapist for 9 years, and wellness had always been a huge passion of mine.

During that process, I connected with the original owner of Epiphany 313. What initially started as me exploring the space for my spa eventually turned into an opportunity to step in during a transitional period and take over the business. Once I became more involved, I began to truly see the potential of the venue and what it could become for the community.

Since taking over, I’ve focused on elevating the client experience and continuing to grow the brand into a space where people can celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. As the business evolved, the brand also evolved from Epiphany Detroit to Epiphany 313, along with the tagline “Detroit’s Hidden Gem for Iconic Events,” which reflects the experience and atmosphere I wanted people to feel when they walk through our doors. Through that journey, I’ve learned so much about leadership, resilience, and entrepreneurship.

At the same time, I never let go of my original vision for wellness. That passion is now evolving into Lumière Spa, a wellness brand centered around restoration, self-care, and creating intentional experiences that help people feel their best mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Today, I’m proud to be building brands centered around both celebration and wellness. Both businesses reflect different parts of who I am — creating spaces where people can feel joy, peace, and connection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Taking over an existing business came with its own set of challenges because I had to learn the operations, build trust with clients, and grow into a leadership role very quickly. There were moments where I had to make difficult decisions, adapt under pressure, and figure things out in real time. Entrepreneurship teaches you very quickly how to problem solve and remain resilient, even during uncertain seasons.

One of the biggest challenges has been balancing multiple roles at once. While growing Epiphany 313, I’ve also continued working as a massage therapist, building Lumière Spa, and being a mother. Learning how to balance business, motherhood, and personal growth has been one of the most rewarding but challenging parts of my journey.

Another challenge has been learning to trust my vision and confidence as a businesswoman. When you step into something that already exists, there can be pressure to prove yourself or fear of making the wrong decisions. Over time, I learned that growth comes from being willing to evolve, take risks, and stay consistent even when things are difficult. Most importantly, my faith in God has helped carry me through the moments where I felt overwhelmed, uncertain, or discouraged.

Although the journey hasn’t always been easy, every challenge has helped shape me into a stronger leader and has pushed me to continue building spaces and experiences that genuinely impact people.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Epiphany 313 is a luxury event venue located in Detroit’s East Village neighborhood that specializes in creating memorable experiences for weddings, corporate events, social gatherings, milestone celebrations, and community events. What makes our brand unique is that we focus on creating complete experiences rather than simply renting out a venue space.

Currently, we have two event spaces within our building, with plans for a third space already in development. Our Kercheval Gallery accommodates up to 200 guests, our Cadillac Showroom accommodates up to 400 guests, and our upcoming Epiphany 313 Lounge will accommodate up to 60 guests for more intimate experiences. Each space offers its own atmosphere and flexibility, allowing us to host a wide variety of events while giving clients options that fit their vision and guest count.

In addition to our event spaces, we also offer an Airbnb featuring three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and two common areas, creating convenience for clients, guests, or bridal parties who may need accommodations or gathering space during their event experience.

What truly sets us apart is that we are intentionally building an experience-centered brand that combines celebration, hospitality, and wellness all under one umbrella. Alongside Epiphany 313, I’m also building Lumière Spa, which adds another layer to the overall experience we want to provide. As a massage therapist, wellness has always been deeply connected to who I am, so incorporating relaxation and self-care into our long-term vision felt natural.

We are known for our versatility, attention to detail, and the atmosphere we create. Whether someone is planning an elegant wedding, a luxury birthday celebration, a corporate event, or a wellness experience, we work hard to make every experience feel intentional, elevated, and memorable.

What I’m most proud of brand-wise is how much the business has evolved and continues to grow. Watching people celebrate some of the most important moments of their lives within our spaces is something I never take lightly. Being able to contribute to Detroit’s event and hospitality scene while creating spaces where people can gather, celebrate, and create memories has been incredibly rewarding.

I want people to know that our brand is rooted in creating environments where people feel cared for, celebrated, inspired, and connected.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories was simply being surrounded by family, laughter, and togetherness. Growing up, I always appreciated how certain moments — whether it was family gatherings, celebrations, music playing, or everyone sitting around talking — could bring so much joy and connection. Looking back, I think those experiences naturally shaped who I am today and why I’m so passionate about creating spaces where people can come together, celebrate, and make lasting memories of their own.
