Community Highlights: Meet Tinetta Wilson of Netta’s Hibachi Llc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tinetta Wilson.

Hi Tinetta, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been built on creativity, resilience, and a deep passion for serving my community. For over 27 years, I worked in the beauty industry as a hairstylist, where I built lasting relationships and learned the value of confidence, connection, and entrepreneurship. That experience shaped my work ethic and inspired me to think beyond traditional paths.
In 2020, during one of the most uncertain times for many families and businesses, I took a leap of faith and launched Netta’s Hibachi LLC, a mobile hibachi and soul food business rooted in culture, flavor, and experience. What started as a passion quickly grew into a recognized Detroit-based brand known for bringing people together through food, creativity, and community engagement.
As my business grew, so did my purpose. I began participating in business development programs, mentorship opportunities, and entrepreneurial cohorts throughout Detroit to strengthen my skills and expand my impact. Along the way, I realized my mission was bigger than food it was about creating opportunities, inspiring others, and showing people what’s possible through entrepreneurship.
Today, I continue to grow Netta’s Hibachi while also working toward launching a youth entrepreneurship and tech hub that will provide mentorship, resources, and innovation opportunities for the next generation in Detroit. My story is still being written, but every chapter has been driven by faith, perseverance, and a commitment to building something meaningful for my community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road but the challenges are what shaped my growth as an entrepreneur and leader.

One of the biggest struggles was transitioning from a long standing career in the beauty industry into the food and hospitality space. While I had years of experience running a business and serving clients, building a mobile food business came with an entirely new set of challenges licensing, food safety requirements, equipment expenses, transportation, staffing, marketing, and learning how to scale sustainably.

Launching during uncertain economic times also meant navigating financial pressure while trying to build visibility and credibility in a competitive industry. There were moments when resources were limited, opportunities felt out of reach, and I had to wear every hat in the business myself.

Another challenge was balancing entrepreneurship with community impact. I’ve always wanted my business to stand for more than profit, so finding ways to grow while still mentoring others, showing up for the community, and creating meaningful experiences required sacrifice and persistence.

Despite those struggles, I remained committed to learning and evolving. I invested in business education programs, entrepreneurship cohorts, and networking opportunities throughout Detroit, which helped me sharpen my skills and expand my vision.

Looking back, the road wasn’t easy, but every obstacle taught me resilience, adaptability, and faith in my purpose. Those experiences helped transform Netta’s Hibachi from an idea into a growing brand rooted in culture, creativity, and community impact.

As you know, we’re big fans of Netta’s Hibachi Llc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am the founder and owner of Netta’s Hibachi LLC, a Detroit based mobile hibachi and soul food catering business established in 2020. What began as a passion project has grown into a recognizable community centered brand known for blending bold flavors, high energy experiences, and genuine hospitality.

Netta’s Hibachi specializes in hibachi-style catering, private events, community pop-ups, and customized culinary experiences that bring people together through food, culture, and entertainment. Our brand is known for creating more than just meals we create memorable experiences filled with flavor, creativity, and connection. From hibachi favorites to soulful comfort dishes, every menu item reflects passion, quality, and attention to detail.

What sets my business apart is the heart behind it. My background as a longtime beauty industry professional taught me the importance of customer experience, consistency, and making people feel seen and appreciated. I’ve carried those same values into the culinary world, building a brand rooted in authenticity, community engagement, and personal connection.

I’m especially proud of how Netta’s Hibachi has evolved into more than a food business. The brand has become a platform for entrepreneurship, mentorship, and community empowerment. Through collaborations, pop ups, youth engagement, and participation in Detroit business development programs, I’ve been able to use my business as a vehicle to inspire others and create opportunities beyond the kitchen. Brand wise, I’m most proud that people recognize Netta’s Hibachi not only for great food, but for the energy, culture, and experience attached to it. We are a business that represents Detroit’s creativity, resilience, and innovation.
I want readers to know that Netta’s Hibachi is built on passion, perseverance, and purpose. Every event we cater, every plate we serve, and every connection we make is part of a larger mission to create joy, uplift community, and show what’s possible when creativity and entrepreneurship come together.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as creating something meaningful that positively impacts both my life and the lives of others. Success, to me, is not just measured by financial growth it’s measured by purpose, resilience, freedom, and the ability to create opportunities for my community.
As an entrepreneur, success means building a business that reflects my values, inspires others, and leaves a lasting legacy. It’s being able to take my creativity, experiences, and passions and turn them into something that brings people together, creates jobs, and opens doors for the next generation.
I also define success by growth personally, professionally, and spiritually. Every challenge I’ve overcome, every lesson learned, and every person I’ve been able to encourage along the way is part of that success.
Most importantly, success means having the ability to pour back into Detroit through mentorship, community engagement, and future initiatives like my youth entrepreneurship and tech hub. If my journey can help someone else believe in their own potential, then I know I’m truly successful.
