United Pets of America started in 1980. My husband and his best friend created the parody and greeting cards. Even though there was interest in the United Pets of America at that time, it fell by the wayside until 2024 when I picked it back up and revived, updated, and added items.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had many struggles with this business. First, I had to renew the trademark. I didn’t have much money, so I filled out the application myself. Many phone calls to the “help” section of the USPTO and a year and a half later, I finally received the trademark. I then had to create a website. Same scenario as the trademark. I built it myself by videos and research which was frustrating and time-consuming. I then had to update the parody union booklet, hire an artist for more greeting cards, find a place to order pet tags, and find a company that would engrave my trademark. This all took much research and time. I’ve been to fairs, craft shows, and city functions around my area trying to get others to see the comedy and fun in United Pets of America, the Voice of the Pet. Starting this little company was not easy at all. However, I didn’t give up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
1. The 19-page United Pets of America, the Voice of the Pet, book is a completely original idea.
2. The union book is hilarious with play on words with pet language.
3. The booklet has a “furword (or introdogtion) which is signed (or pawed).
4. It’s table of contents include seniority, health, vacation, benefits, maternity leave, shift premiums and overtime, retirement services, grievances, general, and union activities.
5. The book comes with a union card, grievance form, registration form, collardarity house, and union signed certificate.
6. Every page has just enough color in the illustrations of pets in the category mode to make it almost believable. For example:
A. on the vacation page, an illustration of the united pets cartoon dog is skiing; the holiday page has a united pets cartoon dog and cat in the Canary Islands;
B. the benefits page has a united pets cartoon dog at the dentist that has a DDDS (Dog Doctor of Dental Science) degree;
C. the shift and premiums page has a united pets cartoon of a dog, cat, rabbit, and parakeet, working on an assembly line;
D. the retirement service page has a united pets dog giving a watch to the united pets character cat;
E. the general page has union pets character cartoon figures that are on strike and the union pets character rabbit is “hopping mad’;
F. the last page has a union pet character dog in the collardarity house;
G. the back of the book has a union pet character like “Uncle Sam” with “We Want You.”
7. These are only some of the hysterical pages in this parody. The printers said they couldn’t stop laughing as they were printing it.
8. This is a new and fresh and comical idea that is completely original.
9. The booklet comes with a United Pets of America, the Voice of the Pet, trademark lasered star pet tag in two sizes. The pet tags are stainless steel and approximately 1.5×1.5 inch (large) and 1×1 inch (small). The trademark on these tags are clear and readable.
10. This is an excellent gift for the pet that has everything, and a gift for the pet owner who spares no expense with their pets.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People who see the union booklet and greeting cards think they are so cute. Both printing companies I used said they chuckled as they printed them. I need to reach more traffic to my website.
