Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Goril.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I started Goril Creations, I had no real idea how to run a business. I don’t have a business degree, no real plan, or years of experience behind me. What I did have was a love for creating things and the determination to figure things out as I went.
Like many creative hobbies, it started small. I loved making things with my hands—designing, experimenting with materials, and seeing ideas turn into real products. I started creating with a Cricut machine, and then 2 months after my son was born, I upgraded to a laser machine. I soon realized that the things I enjoyed making could also bring joy to others.
Starting was the hardest part. There were plenty of moments where I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing. I began troubleshooting with YouTube videos, advice from Facebook groups, and a try-it-and-see approach. I had to learn everything from scratch: designing products, using my laser, pricing items, building a website, and putting my work out into the world.
But little by little, things started to come together. Every product I designed taught me something new (Yes, there was a ton of trial and error). Every order reminded me that people appreciate handmade items and the creativity behind them.
Goril Creations grew from simply enjoying the process of making things. It’s still a learning journey, but that’s part of what makes it exciting. I may not have started with expertise, but I started with passion—and sometimes that’s the best place to begin.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Being a mom of three while owning a laser business means I’m constantly balancing family life with deadlines, orders, and daily tasks of running a business. There have been plenty of moments where I felt pulled in every direction. It could be trying to finish orders during nap time, working late after the kids go to bed, or adjusting when life as a mom doesn’t go as planned. Time management has been one of the biggest challenges, especially in the early stages when I was still figuring out how to schedule my days.
On the business side, there’s also been a learning curve with the laser itself: troubleshooting machine issues, dialing in settings for different materials, and sometimes dealing with mistakes that cost both time and money. Building a customer base and standing out has taken many hours and an increase in patience. But honestly, those challenges have helped me grow not just as a business owner, but as a person. I’ve learned how to adapt quickly, stay creative under pressure, and keep pushing forward even when things feel overwhelming.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I run a custom laser business where I design and create a wide range of personalized products, primarily working with wood and acrylic. I make everything from home décor to gifts, signage, and custom pieces for special events. I really love bringing people’s ideas to life. That could range from a meaningful gift, something for their home, or a completely unique design they haven’t seen anywhere else. Because everything is handmade I spend hours handpainting some of my creations.
I’d say I’m known for being able to create almost anything and for working closely with my customers to make sure their vision comes to life exactly how they imagined it. What I’m most proud of is building this business while raising my three kids. It’s something I’ve grown from the ground up, and it reflects both my creativity and my work ethic. What really sets me apart is the combination of flexibility and attention to detail. I don’t just offer a set list of products. I collaborate, customize, and make sure each piece feels personal and special. My goal is always to create something that people are excited to receive and proud to display or gift.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success a little differently than I would have 10 years ago. Of course, growing a successful business matters, but for me, success is really about balance and fulfillment. It’s being able to contribute to my family while still being present for my kids. I relish in being there for the everyday moments while also building something of my own that I’m proud of.
Success also looks like happy customers and meaningful work. When someone trusts me to create something special for them and they genuinely love it, that means everything to me. It’s knowing that what I’m doing is making an impact, even in small ways. At the end of the day, success is having the freedom to create, support my family, and build a business that fits into the life I have created.
