Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We opened our comedy club, One Night Stan’s, in 2018 with the goal of creating a unique and welcoming entertainment space within our local community. Our owner, Stan Moore, has been a lifelong fan of comedy and recognized an opportunity to bring high-quality live performances to the area. He partnered with professional comedian Mike Green to help shape the vision, combining industry experience with a deep appreciation for the art of stand-up.
From the beginning, the focus was on building more than just a venue, we wanted to create an experience. By showcasing a mix of nationally touring comedians and emerging local talent, One Night Stan’s quickly established itself as a destination for both performers and audiences. Through consistent programming, community engagement, and a commitment to delivering memorable shows, the club has grown into a staple of the local entertainment scene!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. Building and operating a comedy club requires an immense amount of hard work, and there are many behind-the-scenes challenges that people don’t often consider. From day one, we have poured our hearts into creating a well-run, reliable, and enjoyable experience for both our guests and performers.
One of the ongoing challenges is booking lineups that complement each other while still appealing to our audience. Additionally, live entertainment comes with unpredictability, there are times when comedians are unable to make their scheduled performances due to unforeseen circumstances. In those moments, having contingency plans is essential, even though it can be disappointing for both our team and our guests. It’s important to remember that performers have lives outside of the stage, and flexibility is part of the business.
Another learning curve has been understanding our audience, what styles of comedy resonate most and how to consistently deliver shows that meet those expectations. Over time, we’ve grown more confident in that process.
While there have certainly been challenges along the way, we are fortunate to have worked through many of those growing pains. We’ve built a loyal, dedicated staff that has played a huge role in our success, making it easier to adapt, learn, and continue improving every step of the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the Marketing and Operations Manager at One Night Stan’s Comedy Club. I began my journey here as a waitress and bartender, and through hard work, dedication, and the support of great leadership, I was able to grow into my current role. That experience has been invaluable, as it allows me to approach management with a well-rounded perspective, understanding not only the operational side of the business, but also the day-to-day realities of our front-line staff. My goal is always to create systems and processes that make their jobs more efficient and set them up for success.
In my current position, I oversee a wide range of responsibilities, including hiring and training staff, payroll, inventory management, and the overall opening and closing operations of the club. I also handle comedian logistics and documentation, coordinate events, fundraisers, and private bookings, and manage our website, email communications, and phone inquiries. On the marketing side, I focus on creating engaging content across our social media platforms and within the community, as well as developing drink specials and menus that enhance the guest experience.
One area I particularly enjoy and take pride in is community engagement. Our team actively participates in local events such as holiday tree lightings, Memorial Day parades, and various fundraisers. Being able to give back to the Waterford community is incredibly important to me, as their support is what allows our business to thrive. Over time, we’ve built meaningful relationships and friendships through the club, and I truly value the sense of connection we’ve created.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend operational efficiency with creativity and community focus. I take pride in wearing many hats and ensuring that every aspect of the business, from staff experience to guest satisfaction to community presence, works together seamlessly. I’m most proud of the growth I’ve achieved within the company and the role I’ve played in helping shape a positive, welcoming environment for both our team and our guests.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We are open Thursday through Saturday nights year-round, offering a full comedy club experience with tableside service to ensure our guests are well taken care of throughout the show. In addition to our main showroom, we feature a cocktail lounge where we host open mic nights, as well as a private banquet room that is perfect for a wide range of events.
Our venue is available for rental on any day of the week, making it an ideal space for corporate events, private parties, and special occasions. We also proudly partner with local organizations to host fundraisers. Through our fundraising program, groups can purchase tickets at a discounted rate, sell them, and keep the proceeds. We can also incorporate additional elements such as silent auctions or 50/50 raffles to help maximize fundraising efforts.
