Inspiring Conversations with Margaret Hoggard of Heart Touch Home Care LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margaret Hoggard.

Hi Margaret , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story really begins with both caregiving and survival.

I started my career in healthcare over a decade ago as a Certified Nursing Assistant, working in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and private duty care. Being a CNA taught me the importance of compassion, patience, and truly showing up for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

But my perspective on care deepened in a very personal way when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Experiencing the healthcare system not just as a provider, but as a patient, changed everything for me. I understood firsthand what it feels like to need support, to rely on others, and to value not just the medical care—but the emotional presence, dignity, and kindness behind it.

That experience reshaped my purpose.

I knew I wanted to create something that reflected the kind of care I believed people truly deserve. That’s what led me to start Heart Touch Home Care. I built this company on the belief that care should go beyond tasks—it should be rooted in empathy, respect, and genuine human connection.

The journey hasn’t been easy. Building a business while navigating personal challenges, learning the complexities of the healthcare system, and creating structure from the ground up required resilience and faith. But every challenge has strengthened my vision.

Today, Heart Touch Home Care is a registered MDHHS provider, serving individuals who need non-medical, in-home support. I am also working toward expanding into a residential care home to provide a safe, nurturing environment for those who need more consistent care.

Everything I do is personal. This isn’t just a business for me—it’s purpose-driven. My experiences have shaped the way I lead, the way I care, and the standard I hold for my company. At the core of it all is a simple mission: to provide care with heart and service with love.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

One of my biggest challenges has been navigating both my personal and professional journey at the same time. Being diagnosed with breast cancer while also building my career in healthcare forced me to face life from two completely different perspectives—caregiver and patient. That experience was physically, emotionally, and mentally challenging, but it also strengthened my resilience and deepened my purpose.

On the business side, building Heart Touch Home Care from the ground up came with its own set of obstacles. Learning the complexities of licensing, state approvals, and healthcare systems—while trying to establish credibility in a highly regulated industry—was not easy. There were moments of uncertainty, especially when it came to understanding insurance, Medicaid processes, and positioning my agency in a space where non-medical providers are often overlooked.

Another challenge has been balancing leadership with compassion. As someone who naturally cares deeply, I’ve had to learn how to set boundaries, make tough decisions, and lead a team while still maintaining the heart-centered approach my company stands on.

Despite these challenges, each obstacle has shaped me into a stronger business owner and a more intentional leader. I’ve learned to adapt, stay consistent, and keep moving forward even when things felt uncertain. Those experiences didn’t break me—they built the foundation for everything I’m continuing to grow today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Heart Touch Home Care LLC is a non-medical home care agency dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality support to individuals in the comfort of their own homes. We specialize in assisting with activities of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, medication reminders, and companionship, helping our clients maintain independence while improving their overall quality of life.

What sets us apart is the level of intention and heart behind everything we do. Our approach goes beyond basic care—we focus on building genuine relationships, preserving dignity, and creating a sense of comfort and trust for every client we serve. This isn’t just a service; it’s a personalized experience rooted in empathy and respect.

As a registered MDHHS provider, we are proud to offer accessible care to individuals and families who rely on Medicaid-funded services, while also serving private pay clients. We understand that every client’s needs are different, which is why we tailor our care plans to fit each individual’s lifestyle, preferences, and level of support.

One of the things I am most proud of is building a brand that reflects both professional excellence and genuine compassion. Heart Touch Home Care was created from real-life experience—not only from years in healthcare, but from understanding care on a personal level. That foundation drives the standards we uphold and the impact we aim to make.

Looking ahead, we are actively working toward expanding into a residential care home to provide a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for individuals who require more consistent support. Our goal is to continue growing while staying true to our mission: to provide care with heart and service with love.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m very intentional about what I consume, especially as a business owner and someone in healthcare. I gravitate toward resources that help me grow mentally, emotionally, and professionally.

I enjoy books and content centered around personal development, resilience, and leadership—anything that challenges me to think differently and evolve. I also use tools like Canva for branding and content creation, as well as digital platforms that help me stay organized and build structure within my business.

Podcasts and real-life stories are especially impactful for me because they offer perspective and remind me that growth often comes through challenges and consistency.

At the same time, I’m currently in the process of writing my own book, which is deeply personal and rooted in life experiences and lessons. That journey has shifted me from just consuming content to creating something meaningful that I hope will inspire and connect with others on a deeper level.

Overall, I focus on anything that aligns with purpose, growth, and becoming a better version of myself—both in business and in life.
