We recently had the chance to connect with Leslie Martin and have shared our conversation below.
Leslie, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy was when my daughter passed her real estate course. She works full-time, so taking this class meant fitting it in after work. Six weeks of dedication and hard work later, she passed! Sharing that moment of accomplishment with her was incredible, especially knowing how much effort she put in alongside her busy schedule.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Leslie Martin, a licensed Metro Detroit Realtor® serving Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties. I provide personalized real estate services for both buyers and sellers, offering professional photography, custom staging, and strategic marketing to make every property stand out. Sellers gain insights on pricing and navigating offers, while buyers receive guidance on finding and negotiating for their dream home.
Before real estate, I spent over a decade in healthcare, but my own buy-sell experience showed me there was an opportunity to bring a higher level of service to the industry. Today, I specialize in a white-glove concierge approach, guiding clients through a detailed onboarding process and continuing to support them even after closing. My goal is to make the buying or selling experience seamless, stress-free, and even enjoyable, while building lasting relationships with my clients.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You’ll spend a long time in survival mode, but you will end up thriving, so keep pushing.
Survival taught me grit, and thriving is teaching me joy. If this is what life looks like on the other side, I’m so glad I didn’t give up. 💕🦚
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Showing up. I strive to be the friend I needed when I was growing up. I became a young mom and went through a lot of trauma, so now I make it a priority to be there for friends who have young children. I know how meaningful it is to offer support and presence. Community is everything to me.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes. In 2012, I started working for a hospital system, and by 2013, I was so inspired by the C-suite leaders that I knew I wanted to be part of that team someday, making positive changes, shaping policies, and supporting both frontline staff and leaders. By 2021, I earned a spot on that team, but after a few years, I realized it wasn’t enough. I needed autonomy and the freedom to be myself. I wanted to break through the ceiling and have more control and creativity in my work.
