Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kenneth And Ashley Sledge of Detroit

Kenneth And Ashley Sledge shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kenneth And Ashley, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
That because we’re a horror podcast/youtube channel, that we’re some sort of insane people that love death and real life tragedy, when we are actually the opposite. We love our violence in fiction only.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Ken and Ashley Sledge, a couple that has been together for 21 years. Our first date was to go see “War Of The Worlds” in 2005, so our relationship started with horror. We have a youtube channel called Sledgehammer Horror where we interview guests about their first horror movie, do movie reviews, and many other segments.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My wife. Ashley gives me the confidence to just be me and understand that that is ok, I don’t need to be anyone else and I don’t need to try so hard. Just be me.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I PROMISE, even though you’re different and you feel like you’ll never be like other people, there is a community that you’re going to grow up that you are in love with and they love you back.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. 100%. We always talk about how the Ashley and Ken that you see on your screen are the exact same as the Ashley and Ken you meet in person. We PRIDE ourselves on being genuine and real.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Above and beyond Sledgehammer Horror, I hope we’re remembered as being great parents and kind people. We are accepting of everyone and tried to be as inclusive as possible.
