Check Out Thomas Renshaw’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Renshaw.

Hi Thomas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After having a tattoo done for my first wife by Red Duggan, I realized I was wearing a suit and tie for no reason. After attending a National Tattoo convention in California with Red and having a tattoo done by Brian Everett I decided I was gonna make a change. I had a meeting with Terry “Tramp” Welker at Eternal Tattoos in the late 80’s and I was off and running. I tattooed my first customer on my second day. That was a short apprenticeship indeed. I am still with Tramp today and thats pretty much all needs sayin. He’s been like a brother to me and I am Eternally gratefull!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a tattoo artist was like riding a bike, in this case a Harley. Never looked back. The road was straight and washed in sunshine!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am and always have been know as a black and gray portrait artist or photo realist. Often linked in conversation with Brian Everett and the late great Jack Rudy, I am proud to be called an OG by those after me. I founded the style of using one 7 magnum needle to complete an entire tattoo. No singles needed or multiple setups. Thats tat talk but those who do will get it. I would like to think I was one of the bridges from old style tattoos too what is now many of the finnest tattoo artist ever conceived worldwide. They are spectacular!
