Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Henderson.
Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always baked bread and treats for our family and we always had chickens. I was always in the kitchen, canning or creating something new. Then a few years ago we wanted to look into raising a steer or two for our own beef and we met with a farm that raised mini highland cows and we learned so much about having cattle and decided that we wanted to be a part of the highland cow family. Shortly after we brought them home, we decided we wanted to be able to share them with the community, we started off with a coffee and cows event where people could book with me and come visit the cows in the pasture. Since then, we have created the farm stand and our tallow skincare line and working with other small businesses in the area as well. The Homestead has grown over the last year or so because of the farm stand.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think any business owner will agree that there are always some bumps in the road. Owning a business has so many parts to it. Then adding in gardening, flowers, cattle, chickens, baking, photography, and tallow there’s bound to be some struggles. We are very blessed our community has been so supportive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Homestead has so many different branches. When I was coming up with a name for our business, I wanted something that would encompass everything that we do. We offer photography sessions, a whole lineup of tallow products, baked goods, and cuddle a cow sessions with our highland cows. I think the variety of products that we offer helps set us apart, we work tirelessly trying new products and we even help support other small businesses bringing them into the stand to help them get more exposure in the community. All of our products can be found on our website www.hendersonhomesteadmi.com
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that our city is so focused on supporting one another than bringing each other down. Everyone wants each other to grow and I think that is the best way to show support. I’m not sure there’s anything I really dislike about our city, I am proud of being here.
