Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Swab.
Hi Matt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the Lansing area and graduated from Olivet College in 2009. After college, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy where I served our country for 4 years before moving back to Michigan to work as a Police Officer and K9 Handler. After my K9 was medically retired, I transitioned into the insurance industry and moved to Southwest Michigan to start our family business, The Swab Agency, a Farm Bureau Insurance agency in Bridgman in 2022. My wife, Marissa and I have 3 children and enjoy having them involved in the business as much as possible. I’m very passionate about serving our clients, and spending time with family and friends.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our family moved to Southwest Michigan six months before starting our agency. It was very difficult to establish our name and reputation due to my wife and I not growing up in this area, but through hard work and dedication to building relationships and serving others, we were able to gain traction. We are very proud to call Southwest Michigan our home and to raise our children here.

Across the state of Michigan, Farm Bureau Insurance agents have started the Agent Charitable Fund, which we are proud to be involved in. The ACF allows our agency to apply for food grants that sponsor local school districts to help combat food insecurity in children. By participating in this effort, we have donated thousands of dollars to food pantries across Southwest Michigan.
What’s next?
Our team is eager to grow so we can continue to provide amazing service to our clients! We are currently hiring for the Customer Service Representative and Sales Producer positions. Our agency provides a competitive income, 401k match, flexible working hours, and PTO. Our team is looking for someone that is driven, coachable, and eager to serve others in a fast-paced office setting.
With the ability to protect other business owners, we are also focusing on growing our commercial division. We have very competitive rates for Workers Compensation, especially when it comes to contractors. We understand that this is a pain point in most contractors’ overhead and because of that, Farm Bureau Insurance has taken a 17% decrease over the last three years to help limit those costs for small business owners. We can provide Certificates of Insurance the same day they’re requested, which is vital in the construction world.
