Meet Lika Merabishvili of StrategEast, Alte University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lika Merabishvili.

Hi Lika, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey started with a strong passion for education and youth development. I began working with young people when I was just 17, which sparked my interest in psychology and teaching. After completing my studies, I started teaching at the university level at Alte University, and over the years I’ve grown into a professor and now head the bachelor’s program.
Alongside teaching, I’ve always been interested in technology and its role in education and society. This led me to found my own NGO, Space for Education and Development, to help young people access European programs and relevant opportunities. Over time, I’ve expanded my focus to include AI and tech ecosystems across the Caucasus region as Regional Director at StrategEast, where I work on research, policy, and initiatives that prepare societies and workforces for AI.
So, my journey has been a combination of education, youth development, and technology, always guided by a desire to create opportunities and foster growth at both individual and societal levels.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. I’ve faced many challenges along the way, but I’ve always seen them as opportunities to grow. There were countless nights I stayed up working, learning, and preparing for projects. I never said ‘no’ to opportunities, even when they seemed difficult or uncertain.
I also faced rejection many times—from programs I applied to, projects I pitched, and collaborations I pursued. Each ‘no’ could have been discouraging, but I didn’t stop. I kept applying, kept learning, and kept pushing forward. Those struggles taught me resilience, persistence, and the value of hard work. Today, I can say that every challenge I faced helped shape the person I am and the work I do

As you know, we’re big fans of StrategEast, Alte University. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
StrategEast is a leading independent organization based in the U.S., focused on advancing technology, innovation, and strategic growth across Central Eurasia. We specialize in AI policy, digital transformation, and supporting startups and workforce development. What sets us apart is our ability to bridge research with practical solutions, connecting governments, businesses, and international organizations to implement impactful programs. In my role as Regional Director for the Caucasus, I lead initiatives in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, helping societies and workforces prepare for the AI-driven future.
In addition, I work at Alte University in Georgia, a premier institution committed to modern pedagogy and academic excellence. I serve as a professor and head of the Bachelor’s Program in Psychology, where I focus on nurturing the next generation of professionals and leaders.
Overall, I am proud that both organizations combine research, education, and practical solutions to create meaningful opportunities and drive long-term impact in the region.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I strongly believe finding a mentor or building a network is all about being proactive and genuine. For me, it has worked best when I reached out to people whose work I admire and asked thoughtful questions, not just for favors. Attending conferences, panels, and events has also been very effective, because it allows you to meet people in person and start a conversation around shared interests.

I’ve also learned that persistence matters. Sometimes people are busy, and you might not get an immediate response—but following up politely and showing genuine interest can make a difference. Most importantly, networking isn’t just about what others can do for you; it’s about mutual support. I always try to offer help or share opportunities when I can, which builds strong, long-term connections. That approach has helped me find mentors, collaborators, and amazing opportunities along the way.”
