Hi Lindsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a passion for helping people, but discovering my true calling was a journey. After I graduated with a Bachelors degree, I worked in a job for which I had zero passion. For years, I made attempts to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life.
A conversation with a family friend, who was an Occupational Therapy Assistant, changed everything for me. As she shared what occupational therapy truly does – helping people regain independence and return to the everyday moments that matter most – I felt an instant connection to the profession. After job-shadowing her in a skilled nursing facility, I knew without a doubt that OT was my calling. Not long after, I enrolled in classes and began my journey into occupational therapy.
After I graduated from my occupational therapy program, I worked in the rehabilitation unit of a hospital for a few years. I noticed that many seniors were hospitalized from falls that could have easily been prevented, had they the proper education and techniques to manage chronic conditions and disabilities. This realization prompted me to get a certification in home safety and fall prevention for seniors, which led to opening my private occupational therapy practice in March 2023.
At first, my business focused on fall prevention via modifying the home environment for fall prevention. But, as time went on, I discovered that my clients could also benefit from pain management, hand therapy, strengthening, coordination, and an array of other services that fall under the umbrella of occupational therapy. I began offering these services with success for both my company and my clients. Before I knew it, I had hired additional staff and added physical therapy to our list of services.
As Living Solutions Plus continues to grow, my staff and I have the privilege of helping more people every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening a business in the medical field comes with a significant number of challenges. From navigating complex insurance systems and reimbursement processes, to maintaining strict compliance with healthcare regulations and implementing industry best practices, the learning curve was steep. Beyond the clinical side, there was also the reality of building and running a business from the ground up. I handled everything myself—billing, financial management, marketing, human resources, and daily operations, which required countless hours, determination, and resilience. I had to quickly learn entirely new skill sets and hold myself to the same high standards of excellence that I bring to patient care.
Despite all of this, the greatest challenge was simply waiting for clients to find their way to me. Establishing strong referral relationships required constant networking, outreach, and visibility, which takes both time and persistence. Balancing those efforts while raising a family and continuing to work my day job was exhausting and, at times, overwhelming. The process took far longer than I had anticipated, which brought stress and uncertainty. I was eager to begin helping people, and the waiting period tested my patience and resolve. Still, that season taught me perseverance and reinforced why this work matters so deeply to me.

Living Solutions Plus is a mobile outpatient therapy practice that brings high-quality physical and occupational therapy directly to our clients’ homes. Our services are designed to help individuals regain or maintain independence, improve quality of life, and continue doing the activities that matter most, whether living with a chronic condition or disability, recovering from surgery or injury, or working to prevent age-related decline.

Outpatient therapy in your home is convenient, familiar and accessible. When therapy is provided at home, patients no longer need to travel, saving time and eliminating the need to arrange transportation, wait in a clinic, or manage busy schedules. Being in a space you know and feel at ease in helps reduce anxiety and stress, encouraging greater participation and relaxation during sessions. Therapists teach patients strategies to improve their independence with daily routines within the context of their own environment, making the therapy more practical and relevant.
Living Solutions Plus is in network with nine health insurance providers, as well as Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans. We proudly serve clients throughout Oakland County, Michigan.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I began my journey as an individual therapy provider with little knowledge of how to start, run, or grow a business, and only a limited understanding of the medical system. Three years later, I am proud to be the owner of a private practice that employs five therapists, with more joining soon! Along the way, I have developed hands-on experience in business operations and a working understanding of navigating the healthcare system.
I am always growing, changing, and discovering new things about myself that help me on this journey. Every obstacle has reinforced my belief that quality, compassionate care is worth the effort. Today, I carry those lessons forward, proud of how far both myself and Living Solutions Plus have come, and energized by the opportunity to continue growing, serving, and helping others live fuller, more independent lives.
