We recently had the chance to connect with Michael Tubbs and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A day in the life of Michael Tubbs goes as followed: I wake up, pray, workout, shower and get my day rolling by knocking things off my to do list. As a business owner of several companies, it’s important that I hold myself accountable for getting things done, so making a to-do-list the night before, and scratching them off as my day goes on helps me out tremendously.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Michael Tubbs, i’m from Ypsilanti, Michigan, and I love The Lord. Outside my love for The Lord, the most satisfying experience is my life is being a dad. That brings me great joy, and I wouldn’t trade that feeling for the world.
I have a Credit Restoration company, that focuses on helping individuals to have a better understanding of credit while also assisting them with certain credit woes they may have.
I also have a nonprofit organization called Real Agape, whose goal is to provide resources and programs to those that really need it.
We recently launched our Health and Wellness Program, that’ll give Medicaid recipients state wide an opportunity to join any program that we’re running free of charge. This is going to be huge, as it will give our recipients an opportunity to live a more holistic lifestyle.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Earlier in my life, I placed limitations on the things I could and couldn’t do based on the environment that I grew up in. I didn’t believe someone who grew up in a lower socioeconomic neighborhood could explore places outside of a 10 mile radius of where he resides. Lucky for me, I was introduced to Father God and His Son, Jesus Christ, and every limitation that I placed on myself was removed. I’ve experienced things and traveled to places that as a young man from Ypsilanti, I wouldn’t have thought it was possible at all, but God.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. I suffered some crippling moments in my personal and business life that almost made me throw in the towel. I had to completely start from scratch while dealing with someone extremely close to me going through some serious health issues. I can say that the only thing that kept me going was my Faith. Those moments shaped me into the man that I am today. I was reminded in those tough times that we bend, but we don’t break.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
My faith. With the world moving so fast and everyone being in such a hurry, Father God and Christ Jesus often gets placed on the back burner. I’m very aware that everyone doesn’t have the same political or religious views, but my love for Father God and Christ Jesus will never be swayed or compromised. They mean more to me than anything in this life.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
How much I truly and genuinely care for people. I’ve made very poor decisions in my life, and sadly, those will be the only memories that people will have of me. However, my passion to want to help people to become better versions of themselves is something that I carry with me everyday. The love and passion that dwells within me is very real, and if someone is around me enough, I believe that would know the same thing.
