Meet Kiaris “AiiR” Taylor of Southfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiaris “AiiR” Taylor.

Kiaris “AiiR”, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I actually started dancing back in Farmington, MN, with my friend Courtney — we’d spend hours making up songs and choreography just for fun. That’s where my love for performing truly began.

When I moved back to Michigan, I decided to take things more seriously and released my first song in 2021. After taking a short hiatus in 2023 to reset and refocus, I jumped back into performing at the beginning of 2025. It honestly feels like a new beginning — I’m learning how to gain more experience, build exposure, and continue connecting with the right people who help me grow.

Joining the Crowdfreak Agency has been a huge part of that growth. Through them, I’ve been blessed with amazing opportunities — like opening for Icewear Vezzo, Rocky Badd, and others at events such as Backwoods and Bonfires and Cannabana. Each show has given me more confidence and helped me define who I am as an artist and where I want to go next.

Right now, I’m working on my EP, which I’m really excited about, and I’ll also be hosting my very own “AiiR and Friends” Concert in August 2026. The show will feature some of Detroit’s well-known talent, and I can’t wait to share more details soon — it’s going to be an incredible moment for me and the city.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In 2022, I was hit with a few major setbacks all at once. I had just come in 6th place at the Coast to Coast Competition — after traveling from Atlanta to Florida for the semi-finals — and even though I performed in front of major labels, I didn’t win the prize money that could’ve really helped jumpstart my music career. Around that same time, I was severanced from my job, which made things even harder, especially while raising my child.

Then in 2023, I lost my grandmother, who was like my best friend. That loss sent me into one of the darkest times in my life — I went through a deep depression and almost lost myself completely. But through faith, perseverance, and the support of the people around me, and most specifically my mother, I found a way to get back up. The people I’ve met since then motivate me every day to grow — not just as an artist, but as a person.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of music, I recently decided to return to school to pursue my Associate Degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting. I went back to school for myself, my daughter, and my mother. Earning this degree has always been a dream of mine — not just for personal growth, but because I wanted to understand the business side of my artistry. As an independent music artist, I finance everything that builds who I am creatively and professionally — “AiiR.”

I officially graduated in August 2025, and now I’m able to use my degree in my 9-to-5 job while also fueling my music career. I’m proud that I managed to achieve this milestone while supporting my family, helping a relative transition into my home, guiding my daughter through school, and remaining active with my agency and music.

What sets me apart is my ability to balance it all — the artist, the mother, the student, and the woman who refuses to give up on her dreams. I pour real life into my work, and I think people connect with that authenticity and perseverance.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
One of the apps that’s been really fun and helpful for me and my daughter is Duolingo. My mom once told me that my music niche leans toward K-Pop — and while I’m not a K-Pop artist, I’ve always been drawn to pop-style music and global sounds. That inspired me to start learning Chinese with my daughter, who’s seven.

We use Duolingo together to learn, laugh, and challenge ourselves a bit each day. It’s become something special we share — and it’s also part of my bigger dream of traveling overseas one day and performing my music internationally. Learning another language has opened my mind creatively and reminded me that growth as an artist also comes from growing as a person.
