Hi Nkemdilem, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up with two Nigerian parents and as the oldest of four, I always knew I had to set the tone. That pushed me to chase excellence early, which led me to nursing school. I graduated from Saginaw Valley State University in 2019, magna cum laude with my BSN, and soon after I found myself doing several travel nurse assignments during COVID.
That’s actually where my content journey began. On my off days, I would take myself on little adventures and make short TikToks just for fun. When I came back home to Detroit, I kept doing the same thing exploring, trying new places, and documenting it. Before I knew it, those fun little videos evolved into Detroit Finds 313.
What started in April 2022 as a few cute experience videos has now grown into a full social media platform and agency that highlights the best of Detroit through storytelling, community, and shared experiences. It’s been a wild, beautiful journey and I’m still just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
t definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve always had a social media personality, but finding my lane took some time. In the beginning, I was experimenting with everything — funny nursing skits, Afrobeat dance videos, lifestyle moments just trying to figure out what felt true to me and what resonated with my audience.
Eventually, I landed on Metro Detroit experiences, and that’s where everything finally clicked. But even with that clarity, the journey hasn’t been perfect. Learning the algorithm, navigating constant changes, and trying to stay consistent can be tricky and sometimes discouraging. There are highs and lows, but I’ve learned that it’s all part of the process. Every phase taught me something and led me to the platform and community I have today.

Detroit Finds 313 is a digital media platform built for experience seekers people who want to explore, connect, and discover the best of what Metro Detroit has to offer. I’ve become known as the girl you go to for experiences because I highlight events, restaurants, local gems, and unique things to do around the city in a fun, upbeat, and authentic way.
What sets my brand apart is the energy and community behind it. I bring my personality into everything I create from the way I talk, to the way I dress, to the way I edit my videos. With my nursing background, I have a natural desire to help people, and that shows in how I curate experiences and guide my audience. I’m not just posting content; I’m helping people explore their own city with confidence, ease, and excitement.
I’m really proud of how much Detroit Finds has grown this year not just in numbers, but in the confidence I’ve built within myself as a creator and entrepreneur. I’ve put myself out there, networked relentlessly, spoken at multiple conferences, and found meaningful ways to give back to the community. That’s the heart of the brand: connection, fun, and impact.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I definitely didn’t get here alone. My family has always been my number one support system they remind me daily that the sky is truly the limit. Their encouragement has played a huge part in my confidence and the way I show up in my work.
I’m also incredibly grateful for my Mastermind group: Justice Oshiyoye from Duhtroit, Umelo Onyejiaka from DevOps Detroit, Nick Acheampong from Level Seven Venture, and Jimmy Ward III. We hold each other accountable, check in on our goals, share resources, and celebrate every win, big or small. Being surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you grow changes everything.
My friends have also been a huge part of my journey. They constantly support me, share my content, hype me up, and push my work out into the world even when I’m not asking. And of course, my supporters and followers they’re the heart of Detroit Finds. Their engagement, excitement, and loyalty are what make this platform what it is today.
Every single one of these people has contributed to my growth, my consistency, and my belief in this brand. I wouldn’t be Detroit Finds without them.
