Daily Inspiration: Meet Lisa Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Johnson.

Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since 2019 in Ada, Michigan, Lisa Johnson, certified yoga instructor, has been providing a joyful experience for people of all ages and levels of yoga practice. Folks are invited to enjoy nature, yoga, and interact with goats at Bluebird Meadow Goat Yoga in Ada, Michigan, located just 20 minutes northeast of downtown Grand Rapids.
Participants gather outdoors to reconnect with oneself and make new friends with our little goats. It is an invitation to unwind and slow down from the frantic pace of life.
Bluebird Meadow Farm is peaceful setting to care for the goats, horse, donkey, chickens, dogs and cats. The farm is a place where life and death are honored side by side, where each day is cherished as a gift. Lisa and her husband have built a space that radiates warmth, healing, and joy.
In 2018, Lisa’s love of goats took a whimsical turn when her children gifted her a ticket to goat yoga. The experience was unforgettable, blending movement and laughter in a way that left her and her husband thinking, We could do this at home. So they did. Goat yoga classes at Bluebird Meadow quickly grew into a beloved tradition, drawing people from all walks of life to stretch, breathe, and giggle as baby goats frolicked nearby.
As the classes grew, so did the community. Lisa completed her 250-hour yoga teacher training and now teaches the sessions herself, with the help of “goat wranglers” and her ever-supportive husband, who handles photography and social media. Together, they’ve built more than just a farm—they’ve cultivated a place where people feel safe, seen, and soothed.
Every class, every cuddle, every moment of shared laughter under the West Michigan sky reminds Lisa why she does this. “People tell us this place feels peaceful, therapeutic… like love,” she says. “That’s the real gift we get to share.”

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Just as we were getting launched, the pandemic limited our social interactions and consequently enabled us to have a soft start. We offered a safe way for small pods of individuals to gather safely on the farm. It met a deep need for connection with the earth, animals and exercise. This provided a deep sense of grounding in chaotic times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Lisa’s creative energy flows through her care for the animals and her practice as a yoga instructor.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
In her yoga training thesis, Lisa wrote about the intersectionality of yoga, nature and the therapeutic intuition of animals. In an increasingly disconnected digital society, Goat Yoga invites folks to unplug and reconnect with these natural lifegiving resources.
