Inspiring Conversations with Rhonda King of Kings Loving Hands Adult Care Home , LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda King.

Hi Rhonda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Initially we didn’t set out to build “a program” we simply started with one investment property and a heart to help. What started with one home in midtown & our family’s hard work and dedication, we were able to offer a clean renovated and safe space to those in need. We realized the lack of supportive services is what leads a lot of people to homelessness in addition to mental health care . So we decided to provide an actual supportive care program in a safe environment / housing, for homelessmen over 49 who’ve fallen between the cracks.
Focused on those who are experiencing housing instability or unsafe conditions and by offering them a place can to regain themselves, proved successful. We are aware many are in this situation are due to challenges that could have been prevented with timely support and resources and that is what we offer.

Today, KLH stands out because we combine affordability, consistency, and compassion with professional structure. We don’t just offer a place to stay—we offer stability, community, and a team that truly cares. Our mission has always been simple: to provide dignity, safety, and hope to people who deserve a fresh start.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of our biggest obstacles has been operating as a completely self-funded, independent program with no government or state assistance. Because some things can’t wait .
Every renovation, every supportive service, and every resource we provide has come directly from our own hard work and dedication.
We’ve faced challenges balancing limited funding with maintaining high standards of care, renovating properties that needed full transformation, and building a structured, trauma-informed environment from the ground up. We’ve also had to overcome public misconceptions about supportive housing and earn the trust of residents who come to us with significant trauma and instability. But each obstacle has strengthened our mission and shaped King’s Loving Hands Adult Care Home into the reliable, compassionate program it is today.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Here’s my top 5 and why .
1. Truly understand who you’re serving.

Learn the needs, trauma, and daily challenges of the population you want to help. This work requires compassion, patience, and awareness.

2. Be prepared to fund and build slowly.

Most supportive housing programs don’t start with grants or government help. Start small, stay consistent, and reinvest into your homes

3. Create a real home environment, not just a place to stay.

The family-style, structured setting is what changes lives. Cleanliness, routine, and dignity matter more than people realize.

4. Put strong policies and systems in place early.

House rules, medication systems, safety plans, and daily structure will protect your program and your residents

5. Stay hands-on and committed.

This isn’t a distant business. You must be present, involved, and willing to work through challenges — because the impact you make is worth it.

Pricing:

  • Our program is fully income-based, so pricing varies according to each resident’s financial situation. • We do not offer flat or fixed rates — every plan is tailored to the individual’s needs and ability to pay. • We provide supportive housing, meals, and services at accessible, affordable levels for vulnerable adults. • Because we are self-funded and privately operated, we work directly with each resident to create a fair and manageable cost structure. • Exact pricing is discussed privately during the intake process to ensure dignity, privacy, and accurate assessment.
