Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Kamp.
Hi Becky, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The journey to starting my dog training business began when I realized I no longer wanted to work for anyone but myself. I craved the freedom to create my own path. One afternoon, while driving home from a secretary job I never truly enjoyed, I heard a radio ad about becoming your own boss through dog training. It immediately caught my attention.
At the time, I had two dogs of my own whom I absolutely adored—one of them with some unique behaviors I wished I understood better. That ad felt like a sign. As soon as I got home, I visited the website, filled out the application, and took my first step toward becoming a certified dog trainer.
Fourteen years later, I’m grateful every day that I followed that instinct. My business has grown through word of mouth, which has truly been the heart of my success. I love meeting new people and working with their dogs, and it brings me so much joy to teach owners how to connect with, understand, and have fun with their pups.
Today, I’m proud to have my own training facility where I hold group classes, private sessions, and more. Building this business has been one of the greatest adventures of my life, and I’m thankful for every dog and every owner who has been part of it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road—running your own business naturally comes with its worries and challenges. Like many business owners, I’ve made investments that didn’t turn out the way I hoped. But every misstep has been a valuable learning experience. Over time, I’ve learned to keep an open mind, stay patient, and avoid jumping too quickly into decisions. Each challenge has helped me grow, refine my approach, and become a stronger business owner.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wolf Pack Dog Training, LLC?
I am a certified dog trainer who helps dog owners with basic obedience, loose leash walking, behavior modification, confidence building, and more. I tailor every training plan to the specific needs of each client and their dog. Sometimes that means guiding a brand-new dog owner through the basics, and other times it means working through more challenging issues—such as fearfulness, reactivity, or anxiety around people and other dogs.
Some of my proudest moments come from helping a fearful dog slowly build confidence and learn to feel safe around the triggers that once overwhelmed them. Another is showing owners the power of enrichment and mental stimulation. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch a dog think, explore, and problem-solve—and to see the joy it brings to both the dog and their owner.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe everyone should take a risk at least once in their life. When I first started my business, I honestly didn’t know everything I was doing. I had gone to college for small business management, which helped, but actually running a business is a completely different experience. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and gamble a little to see what’s waiting on the other side.
I’m so grateful I took that risk and opened my dog training business. I may not be the biggest trainer out there, or operate like everyone else, but I know I’m making a meaningful difference in the lives of dogs and their owners—and that makes every challenge worth it.
