Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Miller.
Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up on a small hobby farm in Reed City and active in 4-H, I developed a lifelong passion for supporting local agriculture. In college, I met my business partner, Mary Galvanek, who shared a mission to strengthen the Cadillac farmers market, support small farms, and address local food insecurity. Over the past six years, we’ve worked together to grow the Cadillac Farmers Market, expand our own operation—Forest and Farm—launch the Reed City Farmers Market, and create Farm to Home, a vegetable basket delivery program built on local surplus. Through these efforts, we continue to learn, grow, and support local farms and small businesses in our communities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any small business or startup, we’ve faced our share of challenges—from long hours and limited resources to the constant learning curve that comes with growing multiple markets and a farm. What gets us through is having a strong partnership and an incredible support system behind us. We tackle obstacles together and stay grounded in the “why” behind our work: this is the life we’re passionate about, the way we want to raise our families, and the kind of community we want to help thrive.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Reed City Farmers Market, Farm to Home, Forest and Farm, and Cadillac Farmers market?
As a part owner of four businesses—Reed City Farmers Market, Forest and Farm, Farm to Home, and the Cadillac Farmers Market—I’m deeply committed to helping small farms and local businesses succeed. Nothing is more rewarding than knowing we’ve played a part in helping other families pursue their dreams. I love growing food for my own family and for our community, and giving back through programs that make fresh, local food more accessible.
One of my favorite projects is our Farm to Home vegetable basket delivery program, which brings surplus produce directly to people who may face transportation or mobility challenges—or even to busy parents who can’t always make it to the market. It reduces waste for farmers, increases access to fresh foods, and makes a real difference in community health. Delivery days are some of the best days—seeing the smiles when those fresh baskets arrive reminds me exactly why we do what we do.
