Inspiring Conversations with Rev. Dr. Dorthea Enrique of Modern Soulful Living Ministries

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rev. Dr. Dorthea Enrique.

Rev. Dr. Dorthea Enrique

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Faith has always been the foundation of my journey. My first experience in public service began in high school as a Junior Police Cadet at the Detroit Police Department, where I discovered a deep calling to serve my community and support law enforcement. That early exposure shaped the trajectory of my life.

I went on to found Modern Soulful Living Ministries, serving as an interfaith minister, spiritual counselor, and holistic therapist, creating spaces for healing, growth, and empowerment. These experiences taught me empathy, discernment, and the importance of leading with intuition, heart and intention.

Professionally, I’ve continued my journey at the Detroit Police Department as an Office Management Specialist, supporting officers and ensuring administrative systems run seamlessly. I’m also an aspiring police chaplain in training, bridging faith and public service to provide guidance and support during challenging moments.

Academically, I have completed my BBA and MBA, which has strengthened my strategic thinking, leadership skills, and understanding of organizational dynamics. In addition, I’m an ordained Interfaith Minister and Spiritual Counselor with a Doctorate of Theology in Spiritual Awareness. Building on this foundation, I am preparing to enter law school in 2026 with a clear goal: to become a judge. My mission is to bring fairness, compassion, and clarity to the bench while ensuring that justice is delivered with both intellect and humanity.

All of my experiences, whether spiritual, professional, and academia, are guided by a single principle: to lead with integrity, empathy, and vision, transforming the systems and communities I serve for the better.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been incredibly rewarding, but it hasn’t always been smooth. Early on, navigating spaces like law enforcement and public service as a young woman of faith presented unique challenges. As a Junior Police Cadet in high school, I had to learn quickly how to assert myself, build credibility, and earn respect in environments that weren’t always welcoming or easy to navigate. My faith and passion for ministey, law & justice inspired my desire to become a Police Chaplain one day.

Founding Modern Soulful Living Ministries came with its own set of hurdles. Building a ministry from the ground up, establishing trust, guiding others through healing, and sustaining a vision, required persistence, patience, and a willingness to embrace failure as a teacher.

Academically and professionally, juggling my BBA, MBA, full time administrative responsibilities at the Detroit Police Department, studying for Law School and applying for police chaplain training has tested my time management, resilience, and emotional stamina. There were moments of doubt, when balancing so many commitments felt overwhelming, but those moments only strengthened my resolve and clarified my purpose.

Each struggle, whether in spiritual leadership, public service, or academics, has reinforced one truth: challenges are opportunities to grow, sharpen discernment, and lead with empathy and conviction. I’ve learned to embrace discomfort as a catalyst for growth, and every obstacle has prepared me to step into the roles I aspire to, ultimately culminating in my goal of becoming a judge who serves with wisdom, discernment and heart.

We’ve been impressed with Modern Soulful Living Ministries, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people know me as a spiritual leader, interfaith minister, or someone who works in public service, but what they might be surprised to learn is that my journey began in high school as a Junior Police Cadet with the Detroit Police Department and after college I ran for public office. I was also invited to the White House by President Barack Obama for a Youth Social to draft and influence health care policy. That early exposure to law enforcement, politics, and public service planted the seed for everything I do today, from my work in public administration at the Detroit Police Department, to my ministry, to my ultimate goal of becoming a judge and law maker.

It’s not obvious at first glance that the same person guiding spiritual growth, running Modern Soulful Living Ministries, and teaching workshops is also deeply embedded in public service, politics and the operational side of law enforcement. That intersection of faith, leadership, and law, that blend of spiritual insight with strategic, real-world problem solving, is what really drives me. My spiritual calling is connected to healing through law, justice and policy.

I think people are often surprised to see how seamlessly these worlds come together in my life: spirituality informs my work, my public service informs my leadership, and my studies in business and law sharpen both. It’s a combination that makes me, and my work, a little unexpected, but deeply powerful.

Thank you to my family, loved ones, ancestors, mentors and supporters who have helped to inspire my journey along the way. I love you all and I will continue to make you all proud.
