Today we’d like to introduce you to Precious Green.
Hi Precious, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a first-generation student with a Detroit rhythm and an entrepreneurial spirit. I graduated from
Eastern Michigan University and am completing my post master’s in Counseling Psychology at Western
Michigan University. Even in my early 20s, I was building community: hosting campus talent shows in Ypsilanti at my alma mater, organizing pop-up shops in the heart of Detroit, and creating spaces before I even understood the term “wellness.” After studying burnout academically and experiencing it personally, I realized that rest is essential. The
Purpose Room Collective was created from that moment of clarity: if I needed rest, others did too. In
June 2025, I formally launched it as a Detroit-centered wellness brand.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Balancing everything—school, entrepreneurship, finances, and mental wellness—without a blueprint.
As a first-gen student, you learn everything on your own. Burnout was real. But every challenge pointed
me back toward community-centered wellness and intentional living.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Purpose Room Collective is more than a wellness brand — it’s a movement centered on healing Detroit from the inside out. Detroit is often labeled as one of the most violent cities in America, and the narrative focuses heavily on what’s “wrong” with the community. But what I’ve learned through my psychology training and lived experience is this: community healing starts with individual healing. How we treat ourselves sets the tone for how we show up in our homes, our neighborhoods, and ultimately, our city.
The Purpose Room is my way of interrupting generational cycles by giving Detroit something it hasn’t always had access to — intentional, soft, reflective, culturally relevant healing spaces.
What sets us apart is simple: 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝, 𝐚 𝐡𝐨𝐛𝐛𝐲, 𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭-𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠.
We create sacred spaces for emotional wellness, economic empowerment, and community-based healing. We combine psychology, storytelling, and soft-life living to help people reset and reconnect with themselves in ways that feel doable, safe, and refreshing.
One of the moments I’m most proud of as a brand happened in 2025. I dreamed of launching a wellness retreat back in November 2024 — before “soft life” became a trend and before I had a support team or funding. I wasn’t backed by sponsors or investors; I used my own resources, trusted my vision, and took the risk anyway.
By summer 2025, we successfully hosted 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐭-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝟗𝟐% 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬.Seeing women walk into that space exhausted and leave renewed reminded me why The Purpose Room exists. That’s the kind of impact you can’t fake.

The Purpose Room is here to stay. We are building a healing ecosystem, not an event series.
We are building community transformation, not momentary motivation.
Our mission is simple but powerful: When the people are well, the community is well. And Detroit deserves to be well.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A surprising fact about me is that I’m actually a shy, introverted extrovert. People see me hosting retreats, teaching groups, and creating community spaces, but what they don’t know is that I’m naturally very reserved and quiet. I genuinely prefer being behind the scenes, and public speaking has never been something I enjoy.
Long before The Purpose Room existed, I was the “silent producer”, always organizing talent shows, pop-up events, and creative experiences without ever wanting the spotlight. Even now, I’m someone who loves building spaces for people, but I don’t always feel like I fit into them myself. I create community for others, even though I’m still learning how to show up confidently in those same rooms.
