Today we’d like to introduce you to David Broden.
Hi David, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I come from a family that loves music. Music always played in my home and was playing during visits over close relatives houses. I somehow always became the child in charge of music. Once my friends started having small parties, they put me in charge of music as well. I would make mixtapes together and give them away, introducing people to some of my favorite songs. I put djing away and began focusing on playing trumpet and french horn. Fast forward to after college, my friends began to ask me to dj events. My neighbor happened to be a dj and began giving me lessons and allowing me to practice every day. Finally, one of my friends heard about the lessons and asked me to dj his party. The event was a success and afterwards my friends encouraged me to take it seriously. I began djing and quickly got offered residency opportunities at several clubs in downtown Detroit. Djing on a regular basis gave me exposure and led to me becoming a regular DJ for Wayne State University and the feature DJ for Comedian Coolaide Saturday Night Laughs show. From there, I began collaborating with local DJ rap group Clear Soul Forces. This led to several shows around Michigan and eventually a European tour. More recently, I have been hired to opened up for R&B singers Joe, Case, Carl Thomas, Monica, Ashanti. I have also been hired to dj events for Snoop Dogg and non profit events for professional basketball and football players.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles and obstacles along the way have been health issues. As well as trying to navigate my health, becoming vegan, balancing work and having a son and family and career.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a logistician for the DoW. I have work there for 18 years. I have been a dj for over 20 years. I also manage my properties in Detroit. I am known for being hardworking, enterprising and entertaining. I specialize in logistics/ supply chain management, djing and being an entrepreneur. I received my bachelor degree from Oakland University and my Master’s degree from Central Michigan University. I am most proud of teaching my son to also dj and seeing him become a young talent. What sets me apart from other djs is my vast knowledge of several types of music and being a former musician. My hard work and dedication has kept me working almost every weekend.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Follow God and listen to your heart. Do what works for you even if the world disagrees with it. My journey has been more about being finding health than any success that I have had so far.
