Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Randall.
Hi Chris, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I actually came up with the idea for Sweep on the road while working as an Account Operations Manager at Pepsi. I was constantly traveling, listening to audiobooks, and one day I was deep into “My Master MBA”. It talked about how successful businesses often start with two things: solving something people hate doing, and bringing modern technology into an outdated space.
My brain immediately went: “Laundry… and Uber.”
And then the lightbulb hit — why isn’t there an on-demand platform for housecleaning? Something simple, transparent, modern, and actually convenient?
I pulled over at a gas station and started doing research right there in the parking lot. Then I spent months digging into the market in 2019 and realized nothing like it existed. So I decided to build it myself.
Sweep officially launched on February 10, 2020 — literally weeks before COVID hit. It was the worst timing imaginable and forced me to learn fast, adapt constantly, and fight to keep the business alive. But in a weird way, those challenges shaped Sweep into what it is today: resilient, innovative, and built with purpose.
What started as a spark from an audiobook has grown into a platform that connects local cleaners with clients through clear pricing, custom orders, and modern tech — like Uber, but for cleaning. We’ve built real traction across West Michigan, earned trust in the community, partnered with local organizations, and we’re gearing up for expansion.
The goal from day one hasn’t changed: take an outdated industry and rebuild it the way it should work in 2025 and beyond.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We launched in February 2020, and within weeks COVID shut everything down. We couldn’t go into people’s homes, so the only thing that kept Sweep alive that first summer was move-out cleanings. Then the second shutdown hit, and I realized I needed a more stable revenue stream. That’s when I expanded Sweep into commercial cleaning, which ended up becoming a huge part of our foundation.
On the tech side, it’s been a marathon of lessons. I’m on my third developer now — and he’s finally the right one. My first developer was fantastic when we built the original app in 2019, but as his agency scaled, our quality dropped. I switched to a local developer, and that turned into an absolute disaster. It set my app back almost two years and created a ton of instability behind the scenes.
Thankfully, I eventually found Luke Pietcher. He not only became our full-time developer but is now a minority owner. He’s rebuilding Sweep’s tech to the standard I’ve always pictured, and for the first time, it feels like the ship is pointed in the right direction.
I’ve dealt with challenges in every area at some point, but another major setback came in 2024 when a full-time manager I trusted ended up poaching clients from Sweep to build their own personal brand. That hit hard and was a major setback that year.
If I’m being honest, Sweep should be much further along. But every mistake, setback, and hard lesson gave me clarity. I now have a clean roadmap, the right partner, and a solid vision of exactly how to build Sweep the right way from here on out.
We’ve been impressed with Sweep LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sweep is a tech-driven residential and commercial cleaning platform built to bring transparency, convenience, and modern standards to an industry that’s been stuck in the past. Clients use our app or website to build completely customized cleanings with real-time pricing — no quoting games, no surprises. Local cleaners (we call them Sweepers) pick the jobs they want, when they want, and get paid quickly. It’s a win-win: clients get clarity and consistency, cleaners get flexibility, real earning power, and the ability to focus on their craft.
We’re known for three things:
Convenience, transparent pricing, reliable quality (we have a 48-hour satisfaction guarantee).
What sets us apart is the combination of modern software and real human service. We’re not a faceless national marketplace. We’re built in West Michigan, we know our community, and we pair strong local relationships with a platform that feels like 2025, not 2005. Everything is designed to remove friction: fast booking, clear communication, easy rescheduling, simple add-ons, and no ambiguity about what’s included.
On the commercial side, we’ve become a go-to for offices, dental practices, property managers, and small businesses who want professional cleaning without the stuffy, corporate janitorial vibe. We customize everything and build it around consistency, accountability, and transparency — the same principles that built our residential success.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built. Sweep’s reputation in West Michigan is strong because we lead with honesty, quality, and ownership. We take feedback seriously. And we treat our Sweeper like partners (because they are), not disposable labor — which directly translates into better service for clients.
What I want readers to know is simple:
Sweep isn’t just a cleaning company — it’s a better way to get cleaning done.
A modern platform, easy booking, great cleaners, transparent pricing, and a company that genuinely cares about both sides of the experience.
We’re growing fast, we’re leveling up our tech with a new versions of the app, and we’re positioning Sweep to expand far beyond West Michigan. But no matter how big we get, the mission stays the same: make cleaning feel effortless, modern, and trustworthy for everyone who uses us.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are a few great ways people can work with us or support what we’re building at Sweep.
If you’re someone who needs cleaning — residential or commercial — the easiest way is to just book through the Sweep app or website (www.sweepllc.com). Every new customer helps us grow, and every repeat customer helps us perfect the experience.
If you’re a cleaner looking for flexible income, Sweep is always looking for motivated, reliable people to join our platform. You choose your schedule, the areas you work in, and which jobs you accept. We’re big on supporting our Sweepers and giving them the tools they need to thrive. They can apply here: https://sweepllc.com/become-a-sweeper/
For businesses, we’re always open to partnerships, collaborations, or cross-promotions — especially with local companies here in Michigan who value community. We already partner with property managers, realtors, and small businesses, and we’re excited to expand that network.
And honestly, one of the best ways people support us is simply by spreading the word. Sharing Sweep with a friend, leaving reviews, or recommending us to someone who needs cleaning goes a long way.
We’re in a big growth phase right now, and we welcome anyone who sees the vision — whether that’s clients, cleaners, collaborators, or people who just want to champion a homegrown Michigan company that’s trying to modernize an entire industry.
