Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Daka.
Hi Monica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I think I fell in love with photography long before I even knew it was photography. As the oldest kid, I was always trying to save moments — birthdays, tiny laughs, the everyday things — so one day my siblings could look back and remember where we came from.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, photography felt more like a hobby than anything else. I never pictured it becoming a business, even though the camera was in my hands long before the dream was in my mind. But once I finally started, the support from my family and friends reminded me why I love what I do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Photography is where I thrive, and I love sprinkling in some videography when I can. Senior shoots and family sessions are my favorite to capture, but I’m always open to the sweet, intimate events too — from baptisms to engagements and everything in between.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Instagram has become a huge tool for me in my photography business. I’ve learned so many small but important details through social media, and I’m constantly inspired by photographers who’ve been doing this for decades.
