Today we’d like to introduce you to Harley Wallen.
Hi Harley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My humble beginnings as a filmmaker was at the end of the film incentives in Michigan funny enough. I felt we didn’t have what I was looking for, true, gritty and high level independent films and at that point the studio films would be gone too and I didn’t feel I could uproot my whole family to stay active so I went back to school online so I could make films that has the capacity to break out and find its audience…. I figured there would be enough people who liked what I liked, a great story told on screen!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a filmmaker on pretty much any level is not smooth because first you have to prove you can but it’s incredibly difficult to get together a budget so you likely make the movie with your own money and that’s not necessarily a bad thing as it teaches fiscal responsibility too.. Then you have to prove you’re not a one trick pony and do it again. Then prove you can do it with a bigger budget and bigger cast etc. it’s never ending. But as a retired professional fighter, that’s what I’m used to, something that is never perfected, so I feel right at home always learning!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a trained actor and a filmmaker who writes, produces and direct films. I love telling stories that on the surface looks like a standard genre film but then add layers to the story and characters so that if you enjoy plot and storytelling and value quality acting, intelligent cinematography, moody lighting and depth, you’ve come to the right place!
My latest film “Fathers” was completed just in time for the American Film Market and I have included some Exclusive Screenshots only available here!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think the fact I love this so much and have now really started connecting and finding my audience is making me motivated to do more and better and I feel with each film the ceiling goes up. Technically I work a lot but it doesn’t feel like work most of the time. I feel inspired and motivated to take it to a new level. But beyond that I feel I study hard and I’m always out there trying to make my best movie yet and I doubt that’ll change since I’ve now made over a dozen films.
