Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio & Pernishia Avery.
Hi Antonio & Pernishia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are a clothing company that started in 2017. My wife had a vision to create, a line that represented us, comfortable fashion rooted in nostalgia for the 90’s.
At first, we had multiple ideas we implanted into our line, but the one that stood out, and stuck was the “WhadUpDoe”, line. So after doing some research, and restructuring our brand, we decided to focus on that piece to reintroduce ourselves in 2021.
Coming from Detroit, we wanted something that represents us 100%, but still won’t alienate anyone else. We are building a legacy for our daughters, at the same time, paving a way to become full time entrepreneurs!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a brand from scratch was a big leap of faith. We had to learn about different fabrics, the pros and cons of screen printing, shirt quality, pricing issues, retail rules, and how to build a following. It was definitely a learning experience.

We are a brand, that is all about comfort first, but still keeping our customers fashionably fit. Our brand is able to be dressed up, dressed down, for when you want to lounge Jo, it’s essentially all purpose. As we stated earlier, we wanted to relaunch with the piece that gained the most traction our first time, but in a much grander way. Now we have our sights set on the future…we are in the process of looking at adding additional colors, more variety, and our own signature line as well. I would say the thing that pushes us, which we are most proud of is the fact that we are doing this together, as husband and wife, and creating something from nothing. To see our brand receiving the love that it’s getting, in different states, by friends, family, and strangers is beyond encouraging. We believe that, when you do something with a pure heart, you’ll get pure results.
What makes you happy?
Personally true happiness is our family thriving in health and joy, and we’re embracing every moment to live life to its fullest. Business wise, seeing our brand receiving the love that it’s getting, in different states, by friends, family, and strangers is beyond encouraging.
