Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Korolowicz.
Hi Luke, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my art career making a comic strip that were then sold by myself as photocopies on street corners and at comic cons and anywhere else people would buy. This was done as the way to afford the supplies to be able to draw thanks to my father refusing to pay for them or give the money. But month after month, ambitions grew and art sales were put towards instructional books and anything else to improve my craft.
Having no sort of help to grow artistically or sell to live gave a sink or swim situation when it came to learning salesmanship. Most artists do not have any business acumen, much to their detriment, and put me in a position where I had to learn the business aspects on my own.
Over time my circulation grew thanks to opening an online store to sell my work beyond on the streets or at events to include an international audience. This cultivated audience is now the source of my steady career and newest business ambition.
Recently, I created my on comic series called Encrypted, Learning from other comic book creators online, I have been working on approaches to self publishing my comic.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of the struggles along the way was a lack of support. Either through people that would promote my work or from having any experienced artists in any place where I lived to help give instruction on how to be a better artist. There was a big struggle in learning any salesman skills for the first few years.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a cartoonist by trade known for my skills in drawing beautiful women. I am most proud of my skills with rendering the female form because it was an artistic hump that took so long to get over. My work’s ability to express personality is the quality I would say sets me apart the most.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think the thing people would be the most surprised about when they see me or my work is the lack of formal education. Since I don’t even have a high school diploma.
