Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Lieto.
Hi Lindsey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The following is from an article I wrote for a local (Spring Lake Stroll) publication:
I’m the new owner of Tranzform, Lindsey Lieto. My family and I have lived in, and loved, the community of Spring Lake for the past 10 years. We are a very athletic family – it rules our lives between kids sports and watching the Wolverines! I grew up in Ann Arbor and got a Bachelors and Masters degree in Industrial & Operations Engineering at Michigan. I worked for 15 years as a Solution Architect, leaving the corporate world when my third child was born.
That’s when I started leading group fitness at Jazzercise Spring Lake, where I continue to teach 4-5 classes a week. I added Tranzform into my routine when I joined their 8 week challenge that included nutrition guidance and 1:1 personal coaching and motivation. It made me realize my real passion has always been for health and wellness, so I got certified as a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach. And am now blessed with the opportunity to bring that knowledge and passion to the community through Tranzform.
Now listen, I didn’t say “I love exercise”. Because really, it IS hard. It can be intimidating. And I can always find a thousand other things I should or want to do instead. But Tranzform is different. Whether it’s a 35 minute bootcamp or small group personal training session, the workouts fly by. The High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) style workouts include 30-50 seconds of exercise followed by 10-20 seconds of rest – you can do anything for just 30 seconds when you know you get a break, right? If you’re thinking “no”, then picture a coach who cheers you by name and helps you with form, brings you a heavier (or lighter) weight, shows you a modification as necessary, and pumps you up the entire time. It pushed me to work harder than I thought I was capable of, see huge strength gains and feel healthier along the way. There’s always energetic music and a fun sense of community, making exercise something to look forward to.
Tranzform became a special place for me because it’s so much more than a really good workout. Every coach is knowledgeable and motivating. They care about your overall wellbeing beyond the mats, offering nutrition guidance, health testing to provide numeric proof of non-scale victories, and inspirational reminders. There are opportunities to volunteer in the community with the trainers and other members. And they bring specialists in to address overall wellness goals.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The transition from prior owner – who was a parent of 10 local gyms – to my single gym ownership was definitely a little bumpy. We’ve had issues with multiple software transitions as well as utility transitions leaving the gym without heat these first few days of snow. But the team and the client base has always had grace and patience through these challenges, and the end of transition is now in sight. We have been able to keep the future in mind and move the ball forward towards those future goals throughout the chaos, and that would not be possible without the incredibly positive and hard working coaching staff I’m blessed to have as my team.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been the owner of Tranzform Fitness Grand Haven for just over two months. In that span of time, we’ve set a mission of “empowering individuals to live their healthiest, most vibrant lives by improving their health and wellness through exercise, nutrition, community and more.” We are set to accomplish this through the core values of positivity, professionalism and empowerment (both for our coaching staff, and for our clients).
Quick-paced and high-intensity, our Bootcamps are the perfect fitness solution for individuals looking to maximize their workout time without it overtaking their weekly schedule. Each session is a 35-minute HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) workout, and a monthly membership unlocks unlimited bootcamps each week. This is our “bread and butter”, what we are known for in the area and the history the prior owner built 10 years ago.
We offer both 1:1 Personal Training, and Small Group Training sessions. Both are an hour long and allow you to get custom feedback and training from a coach.
Going forward, we are working on adding in other exercise programs such as stretching and mobility, yoga, pilates, advanced strength training, athletic sport conditioning, and a specialty class for peri- and menopausal women based on research by Dr. Stacy Sims (the only one of its kind in the area).
Expanding our offerings are one way to help others find a variety of ways to keep their body healthy and at its peak physically. But to help with the four other key areas that impact health (nutrition, sleep and a mindful community), we are also planning to launch a new program that includes personal coaching on a weekly basis for both custom nutrition guidance, exercise accountability, workshops and help for optimizing sleep and reducing stress, and connecting our clients with a mindful community. We want to be the go to for “preventative medicine” in the community to improve and optimize the health of the community.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Accomplishment makes me happy. I never really realized to what extent until I stopped working full time in my corporate IT position. I felt fulfilled teaching Jazzercise and being a stay at home mom by being involved at the school through volunteering (leading fundraising event planning, I was PTO president, on the school board, helped substitute teach and involved helping teachers as much as I can), and also volunteering in the community with Feeding America. But now being involved in leading this gym into the future has enabled me to tap into my passion around fitness, nutrition and general wellness. But more importantly share that passion to help others in the community. I love the feeling of accomplishment when I’ve started something and can see it through. This new position allows me both small and big opportunities for that every day, and every time it brings me joy.
