Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Zmich.
Hi Michelle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I was taught self-care. From my grandmother to my mother- the importance of taking care of your body in your mind. So naturally when I turned 16 I looked up massage and facials in the yellow pages.(yes,I’m dating me). And found this amazing place in Birmingham, called Margot’s.
Margot gave me an amazing service, coupled with so much advice. She treated me with so much respect even though that hundred dollars I bought with me was the only hundred I had in my bank at 16. She stressed the importance of self-care not just for things that you can purchase like Massage, but walking.and simply enjoying life.
I took that with me going forward in my careers. Massage therapy always was an interest for me, but at the time of my schooling/college, you do not need to have a certification to be a massage therapist so I went a different route in criminal justice.
While I loved my career, massage therapy was always on the back of my mind. It was not until later in life that I decided to pursue my bucket list of being a massage therapist. I did this while caregiving for my 95 year old grandmother, which seemed to come back full circle..
I went back to school and eventually became a licensed massage therapist
Because of my love for helping others, I kept continuing my schooling, learning different modalities to help all body types. I have been practicing for eight years, licensed and feel skilled and blessed to be able to provide so many different opportunities for healing..
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely was not the easiest road as I was a single parent raising three small kids when I made the decision to go back to school. I presented it to them like Shark Tank if you’re familiar with the show, with my kids being the sharks.
I simply stated “sharks, I like permission and to go back to school for 13 months-to become a massage therapist. I’m asking for grace and understanding as an older student working towards a new goal.”.
I was greeted with hugs, love, and support- and most importantly, the sharks knew that they would be on the receiving end of my massage journey.
A good massage! As tiny athletes themselves, they also knew the importance of self-care from an early age
We’ve been impressed with Michelle Zmich Therapeutics , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My passion for helping people feel thier best is so important because I know that the body truly wants to heal itself.
I think my passion combined with my skill set and knowledge makes me to be the best authentic practitioner that I strive for-
And because I love what I do, it shows in my work.
I have found a beautiful space to do my healing in downtown farmington.
It’s centered around ample parking for ease and convenience of my clients.
I provide a great affordable massage because I want self care to not be a luxury.
It should be a way of life.
I’m proud to acknowledge that I was a finalist in Hour magazines -Detroit’s “ best of” in the massage category.
I also work on a few of the Detroit Lions, the PGA and then the beautiful people who find me.
My greatest feels that I provide is comfort care to Hospice patients..
I work part time Hospice with over 25 clients on my caseload. It’s pretty amazing
How do you think about happiness?
