Life & Work with Christina Pfeufer of Northport

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Pfeufer.

Christina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was thirteen, my parents opened a flower shop in Manistee, Colonial Flower Shoppe and I just loved flower arranging and learned from an old-school designer. After that flowers were in my blood. I managed flower shops in Lansing, Key West and Chicago still learning the art of floral design all the time. After my marriage to Andrew Pfeufer we moved to NYC where I was the floral manager at the pretigious Tavern on the Green working closely with Warner LeRoy. After a couole years we decided to start our own business, Distinctive Floral Designs, where we did up to 300 plus weddings a year. When we moved back to Michigan we started a flower farm, Field of Flowers Farm in Lake Leelanau where we hosted weddings and events in our refurbished barn. After my husband’s untimely death, I started designing flowers for weddings again full time. After several years I relocated to Northport and changed the business to Field of Flowers North. I’ve had great success here and work closely with party planners and event venues to provide upscale florals for weddings and special events.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, lots of bumps, especially with Andrew’s death. My transition to Northport was very much needed. So once up at the tip of the Leelanau, it’s been better for me and the business has thrived.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a speicalty cut flower grower and wedding floral designer. I have a lovely garden with northern varieties of perennial and annual flowers that are perfect for wedding design. I truly think that creates a farm to table theme, as when we add the local flowers and fauna it certainly becomes more interesting.
I’m really proud of that feature and do think that sets Field of Flowers North apart from retail design.

How do you define success?
I think it’s how happy you are. I’m a solo act, so sometimes that can be a challenge, but I always try to stay positive and that makes for a sucessful career.
