Rising Stars: Meet Doug Davis of Village of Almont

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Davis.

Hi Doug, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Almont Ink began as a shared vision between a customer and an artist. Six years ago, the founders crossed paths at an art gallery in Detroit, where head tattoo artist Timm Nowakowski showcased his original oil paintings. After purchasing one of his works, the connection continued through tattoo artistry—each new shop Timm joined, his loyal client followed.

When DJ settled in Almont four years ago, they quickly realized the community lacked a tattoo studio that reflected both high artistry and local values. The idea lingered until a prime spot became available right off Van Dyke within the social district. With the vision, location, and determination aligned, they secured the necessary funding and stepped forward to bring Almont Ink to life—a space where fine art and tattoo craftsmanship meet, proudly serving the local community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to opening Almont Ink hasn’t always been smooth. One of the biggest challenges was navigating the different laws and local ordinances in Lapeer County, which are quite different from those experienced in Macomb County. In addition, finding talented artists committed to working full time in our shop has, at times, affected our hours of operation. We view these as minor obstacles and expected parts of starting a new business, and we are actively working through each challenge as we grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Almont Ink, we combine traditional artistry with modern digital expertise. DJ’s background in computer science, paired with years of experience as a graphic designer and website developer, allows him to create highly customized tattoo designs for clients—each piece thoughtfully designed and executed with precision.

Beyond tattooing, DJ manages Almont Ink’s digital platforms, including our website, social media accounts, and newsletters. This technical know-how helps us remain a self-sufficient studio, responsive to our clients and always on the cutting edge of engagement. Aways passionate about art in its many forms, from glass blowing and wood sculpting to drawing and, most recently, tattooing.

Born and raised in Hamtramck, Michigan, Timm draws inspiration from his Polish heritage and the cultural blend of Hamtramck and Detroit. His art reflects a rich tapestry of cultural icons and influences, creating simple yet meaningful designs that resonate with both local and broader audiences. With over two decades of artistic experience, Timm has honed his craft to perfection, earning a reputation as a master of his trade.

What sets Almont Ink apart is our commitment to bringing a blend of digital skill and hands-on creativity to every project. We take pride in turning each client’s vision into art they can truly be proud of.
