We recently had the chance to connect with McKenna Joy and have shared our conversation below.
McKenna, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I think there are many paths, we wander around a few of them before chosing one to walk. Some people wander longer or futher than others. Some wander more paths than others. Whatever path you decide though, walk confidently. I’m on many paths!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m McKenna, a full time model out of Detroit, Michigan. One of my favorite parts is being able to travel and immerse yourself in different experiences. I am passionate about creating art and pleasing the clients! I enjoy being creative and modeling allows that creativity to flow. I’m an open book! Reach out and ask anything you would like to know! When not working I love to try and give voices to those who are voiceless: animals.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my parents has helped shape me the most. They keep my grounded and remind me who I am. My family is extremely supprotive and I am extremely grateful for that.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
To be honest, I rarely set my mind to something, so when I do set my mind to something, such as modeling, I don’t give up no matter how hard it is. I just keep pushing on and believe that it will all work out how it is supposed to.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lies the modeling industry tells itself is that they are changing, becoming more inclusive and healthier. I still know many toxic bookers, agencies, casting directors and so on. It hasn’t really changed the way people say from my experience.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If immortality were real, what would you build?
I would build the biggest animal rescue I could. I would take in as many animals as I could and just try to help them all.
