We’re looking forward to introducing you to Loki Gregory . Check out our conversation below.
Loki, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been finding joy in spending time with my animals, partner, and family, as well as learning to bake bread and tending to my first (somewhat) successful garden.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Loki, a 24-year-old lifelong artist based in Michigan. I work with gouache, oil, acrylic, digital art, and more. I really enjoy doing portraits and movie scenes, but I’d like to branch out and create more pieces of landscapes and animals. Despite being really into animals I feel I rarely make art of them.
I sell prints of art I make from pop culture as well as some of original ideas. There’s lots of sci-fi, horror, fantasy, and video games. The prints come in 11×17 and 4×6 sizes. I also love doing commissions and am pretty flexible!
I also sometimes appear at conventions in the Michigan area.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds break when trust is lost. People tend to pull away when they feel invalidated, betrayed, or misunderstood. It’s usually not a single mistake that causes it, but rather unmet expectations building up over time.
Restoring a bond takes consistency, honesty, and accountability from both people. Both have to be willing to work on the relationship, and sometimes it’s just not worth it, not every bond is meant to last. People sometimes grow apart for a reason, and that’s okay if the relationship isn’t healthy or compatible anymore.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Balancing a full-time job and everyday life can make it difficult to find the energy for art sometimes, but even after some long pauses, I always return to it. Each time I do, I find that my creativity and skills have grown in unexpected ways.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I think every version of me is real. What people see in public isn’t fake; it’s shaped by the environment I’m in, what I feel like sharing at the moment, the kind of day I’ve had, and how they perceive me. Everyone experiences me a little differently, and each of those versions is real to them, even if it’s not the same as what someone else sees. In that way, we all exist as multiple versions, both in our own minds and in the minds of others.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m outside or in my own world working on an art piece for hours.
