We recently had the chance to connect with Sarah Maiga and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Sarah, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Over the last decade, my focus was on building a business, a reputation, and a client experience that reflected my values of honesty, integrity, and empowerment. What I am being called to do now is to lead beyond my business and use my platform to influence the policies, partnerships, and community initiatives that shape where and how people live.
I was never afraid of stepping into leadership. I needed to first build a strong foundation so I could lead from a place of stability rather than survival. After ten years of consistent growth, I now have the structure and systems that allow me to dedicate my energy to leadership and advocacy in a meaningful way. I realized that meaningful change happens when you have a seat at the table and the courage to use your voice once you’re there.
Today, that means serving on the Board of Directors for the Greater Metropolitan Association of Realtors, the Canton Community Foundation Board, and participating in leadership programs and policy committees that connect real estate with civic engagement. I feel called to speak up on issues that shape housing access, affordability, and community growth, bridging the gap between real estate and public service. This shift from practitioner to advocate has been both humbling and empowering, and it represents the truest evolution of who I’ve become over these ten years.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sarah Maiga, and I am a licensed real estate broker and loan officer, and the Owner of Maiga Homes Luxury Real Estate, an independent brokerage serving Southeast Michigan. I founded my firm with a clear mission: to provide a more thoughtful, educational, and seamless approach to real estate that empowers clients to make informed decisions with confidence.
Having guided more than 350 families through over $120 million in residential sales, I have seen firsthand how education and advocacy create better outcomes for clients. Over the past decade, Maiga Homes has grown into a trusted boutique brand known for its integrity, advocacy, and elevated client experience. What makes our approach unique is the fully integrated service we provide. As both a broker and loan officer, and part co-owner in a title company, I have developed a full-service model that streamlines the real estate, mortgage, and title process. This one-stop approach allows for transparent communication, faster timelines, and a personalized experience that prioritizes clarity and peace of mind.
Education remains at the heart of everything I do. From designing and teaching the first-ever homebuyer course at the University of Michigan’s Center for the Education of Women+ to creating accessible content on my YouTube channel, my mission is to make real estate approachable, data-driven, and empowering. For me, “luxury” is reflected in the level of care, communication, and integrity clients experience every step of the way.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is the one I share with my husband, Kabir. We met in college, and at that time I was a high achiever who followed every rule and excelled within the structure that was given to me. But he saw something different in me: potential that went far beyond what I could see for myself. He believed in possibilities I hadn’t yet imagined and gave me the courage to believe in them too.
Kabir is a serial entrepreneur, and through him I learned how to think innovatively, take calculated risks, and solve problems no matter the obstacles. More importantly, he helped me unlearn the belief that success only came through traditional paths or established systems. His support and faith in me changed the trajectory of my life. It is because of him that I took the leap to start my own company and built the confidence to shape the life and business I have today.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be this: you don’t have to have it all figured out to be worthy of where you’re going. For so much of my life, I believed that achievement was the only path to confidence and stability. I pushed myself relentlessly, thinking success had to look a certain way or happen on a certain timeline.
What I’ve learned is that growth doesn’t come from perfection; it comes from courage. Every challenge, detour, and disappointment was preparing me for something greater than I could see at the time. I would tell her to trust the process, to keep showing up, and to believe that the life she dreamed of is possible, not because she earned it through effort alone, but because she was capable all along.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The cultural value I protect at all costs is integrity. For me, integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching and even when it costs you something in the short term. In an industry where results are often measured by numbers, I’ve learned that true success is measured by trust, the kind built through transparency, honesty, and consistency.
I built my business around that principle. Every decision, partnership, and client interaction reflects a standard of ethics I refuse to compromise on. I’ve walked away from opportunities that didn’t align with my values because I believe reputation is earned through actions, not words. That same mindset guides how I lead, mentor, and advocate within my community.
Protecting integrity isn’t always easy, but it has created the kind of long-term impact that numbers never could. It’s what allows me to look back on my journey knowing that every success came from a place of honesty, not convenience.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
If I laid down my name, role, and possessions, what would remain are the values I’ve passed on to my children. My life’s work has always been about more than achievement; it has been about showing them what it means to live with integrity, empathy, and purpose.
I want my children to see a mother who showed up, not perfectly, but wholeheartedly. Someone who worked hard, stood for what was right, and used her success to create opportunities for others. I want them to know that wealth isn’t measured in money, but in meaning.
I hope they grow to understand that real success comes from leading with heart and holding yourself to the highest ethical standards, even when no one is watching. That empathy is strength, not softness, and that doing the right thing may not always be easy, but it will always be worth it.
If they carry those values forward, live with compassion, and use their gifts to make a difference, then I will know I fulfilled my purpose. That is the legacy I want to leave behind.
