Community Highlights: Meet My-Ja Younger of In Her Hands

Today we’d like to introduce you to My-Ja Younger.

Hi My-Ja, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My-Ja Younger Is a Testimony that came from many Tests. Born and raised on the Eastside of Detroit to a highschool sweetheart couple young and full of Life and curiosity. My-Ja was born With Sickle Cell Anemia genoType SS. Said to be thee worst, But when you’re a prayer warrior you don’t listen to just anything or anybody.
This life i live is Not easy though many always compliment me and tell me how resilient i am. I became a licensed cosmetologist from High school i started Dual enrollment and i graduated top 3% amongst graduating seniors. Where as some underestimated me, i took all of it and turned it to Gold. I came from deep roots. Some from the south sold out of slavery. Some that used hoodoo, the first and only religion to free the slaves, our people. My people are from the South, Deep South and came here for many different reasons including to work in Michigans automotive industries. My great Grandmother Rosalie Younger Created the welfare Reform. My Grandfather is retired deputy chief of Detroit police. So no i was not Born into privilege, i decided to work hard and do what i love. I was always doing something from dance, to recitals. As a child i did travel for beauty pageants, but sickle cell wasn’t to kind so my mother put my health first. As a warrior i am also a rare disease advocate that travels all over thee world to speaking engagements and to teach people how to thrive in every season with sickle cell instead of feeling like they’re in survival mode. Sicklecell is a Blood Disease that affects much more than African Americans and i always urge people to do their research and as a full spectrum Doula i definitely tell moms to check that genotype. I started out at Grand Valley State University and moved to Wayne state for Pre- Med. i always watched the birthing channel and i truly had an obsession with birth, life, living, and the unknown. After going wholistic and overcoming the pain and struggles of sickle cell, laying in those hospital beds i never gave up. Now I’m a retired licensed cosmetologist, herbalist, Full spectrum Doula, and full time priestess.

As a priestess i help many to heal, not only the inside like herbalism. But on the inside spiritually. We don’t just manifest or pray when we need something. It’s a lifestyle change. I live and Breathe this air out of my lungs because of those who came before me and paved the way. So i never gave up, if my ancestors fought for me then i can give back as i do in so many ways. I help people to heal childhood trauma, i help people to heal wounds that they dare talk about. They trust in me and I am very grateful for my customer base. I help people to grow in ways they may not understand but yet they do innerstand.
I was born From Legacy, I am a Generational curse breaker. I am legacy!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No it has not been a smooth road, having sickle cell was one thing, but being mistreated when you’re already Ill is not smooth at all. I’m so grateful for Dr. Wanda Whitten- Shurney whom is also legacy. She is my pediatric hematologist who truly is amazing and My Drs truly care. Nobody said the road would be easy. I have had many days where i cried because of pain, i cried because i was tired. But i prayed and cried and i got back up. Like the Good book says “he got up” i got up! I went to a wholistic Doctor who i had heard about 3 times. My grandma always said good things come in three’s. Absolutely true! I had a failing liver at the time, i healed it naturally and I’m 14 years wholistic. I’m so grateful!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Greetings Beloved, Allow me to Introduce myself. I am My-Ja K. Younger, Cd, CPD. I will be your Doula, and/ or Priestess. I usher life in as well as take care of the family postpartum mommy has nothing to worry about. I also usher life out. The good Book says, once a man twice a baby” The very same assurance and compassion given when a baby enters earthside, that’s the same amount a family needs when grieving. I am so grateful to be a light in so many lives. I travel many places to speaking engagements and to teach. But i myself find the glory in learning something new daily. When you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life. And i truly love what i do. Spiritual healing is top tier! It’s Divine. As a priestess i conduct divination, i go and lay hands, i pray, i do healing sessions, i teach. Some call it a witch, however the correct term is a priestess.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Thee most important thing is to read everything and have your documentation in order. Run an honest business and everything else will follow. I always try to be the best in whatever i do, because i simply treat others how i want to be treated. I have also learned just alot along the way. I’m grateful and well nourished in the Ori.
