Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Pyle.
Hi Amy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Manchester Blooms is situated on a 19.5 acre farm, that has been in Tom’s family for 2 generations before us. When Amy & Tom acquired the farm it was a Hay field. Hay is a crop that requires very labor intensive, hot work. The family wasn’t passionate about doing Hay. Amy had worked in sales management, marketing, advertising, real estate, and as an acciunt executive since 1993. As a hobby she competed in the Manchester Community Fair for about a decade . Amy won Homemaker Champion twice and Reserve Champion 7 times. A signifigant percentage of her ribbons were in floriculture, recognizing both her beautifully grown blooms and her
talent for arranging. She wanted to build a business at the Bethel Church property, but felt strongly about this project being a shared space. It was important to create a shared space where all could come, unwind, and enjoy without a lot of rules. When all of those factors came together, a flower farm checked all the boxes. The Manchester Blooms mission became: To encourage creativity, curiosity, and positive mental health through a connection with nature.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As with most businesses, there were some learning curves. Our annual flowers are grown in full sun. The first year, we had picnic tables with umbrellas as while they looked cute, there wasn’t a lot of shade from the intense heat. By year 4, we installed large posts and added 2 giant shade sails, which now provide shade for both our guests and their fresh cut flowers. Our first year, customers could not see our flowers from the road. A few guests would drive by and message us… “Where are the flowers”, so by year 3 we added 2 giant beds by the road, to help!
We have had to find and defend our niche over the years. Some customers want a million activities or high maintence blooms and we aren’t the place. We don’t grow fussy flowers and that is a big way that we keep our costs affordable and accesible to people. We will never put price over people and that’s a promise that our raving fans have come to love.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in Nothing fussy U-Pick flowers. We only grow bright showy native annuals (and perennials for 2026) chosen for their ease of growing and their long vase life. What we’re most proud of is our very relaxed atmosphere. Customers won’t find a hundred activites and they won’t have to empty their wallet to visit. We value diversity, equity, equality, and inclusion. It is important to us that we keep our price points accessible to all potential customers. Our mission is to encourage creativity, curiosity, and positive mental health through a connection with nature. MB is for everyone.
How do you define success?
Success for Manchester Blooms is defined by the many return U-Pick visits, glowing reviews, and all those smiling faces with buckets full of flowers. Our customers keep coming back and that’s how we know we’re doing some things right!
