Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Miller.
Hi Jackie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I spent about five years living and volunteering in Theravada Buddhist monasteries. I came to breathwork when I was volunteering at a monastery in Australia in 2008. I knew I’d had a difficult birth, and I’d heard that breathwork was a modality that could potentially reach emotional memories as early as that. I was not disappointed! My very first session led to more and deeper processing of old emotions stored in my body than any modality I had experienced. I knew I needed to learn more, and soon I was in an intensive training to become a certified breathwork facilitator. Almost 17 years later, I’m so grateful both for the transformation and wholeness deep breathwork has brought into my own life, and the incredibly gratifying work of facilitating others to experience freedom from difficult emotional patterns for themselves. I help people who are ready to go deep and get to the root of their issues.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Breathwork has the potential to reach the deep and early roots of our most difficult and challenging emotional, mental, and bodily experiences. Along the way, we experience some degree of those old experiences that have been stored inside us for years or decades. Engaging in work at this deep level is not for everyone. I had to find the courage and commitment to sustain this work at a very intensive level in order to complete the training. As a practitioner, one of the biggest challenges over the years has just been finding a suitable office space. In deep breathwork, it’s important to be able to vocalize many intense emotions, as loud and long as necessary. Not a lot of neighbors are open to that depth of work!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work with people who want freedom from difficult emotional patterns, but need help reaching the deep and early roots of those issues. Deep breathwork is one of the most effective ways I know to do this. It can be challenging at times, but the rewards are well worth it. As we go through life, especially childhood when our nervous systems were not fully developed, we don’t always have the capacity to process painful, confusing, or overwhelming emotions in the moment. Instead, they are stored inside until we find a way to reach, feel, accept, and transform them. In the process, we become more whole and authentic. Then we show up in the world and in our relationships more fully alive, allowing our innate joy and creativity to blossom.
I trained in Sydney, Australia, in a style of deep breathwork that brings a unique combination of three components: conscious connected breathing, characterology, and a technique called decision processing. At this time, I don’t know of any other breathwork facilitator practicing in this style in the U.S.
Besides working with clients one-on-one in deep breathwork sessions, I offer gentle group breathwork sessions in the community on a donation basis. I’m also available to lead sessions and presentations for corporate retreats, in workplaces, or in retreat settings where people are ready to work at a deep level.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People curious about breathwork can come to a group breathwork session or can reach out to set up a phone call to discuss whether one-on-one sessions are right for them. I enjoy collaborating with venues and with other practitioners to create settings for deep healing.
