Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Cummings.
Hi Amanda , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a dually licensed Cosmetologist and Esthetician in both Michigan and California. I first opened Greenleaf Waxing Studio in 2012, while living in Los Angeles. The business thrived in L.A for 10 years and I learned a lot during that time. After the pandemic my personal priorities shifted, and I decided that I wanted to be closer to family, so I moved back home to Michigan. I opened the new location in Troy in 2022 and it’s been going very well for the past few years. I love Troy and the local community here. It feels so good to be back in the community that I started out in. The space is quiet, private and allows for a relaxing experience.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think any path in life is completely smooth, but I do feel that my journey into entrepreneurship has been uniquely supported along the way. Finding the right location can be a challenge but the transition from California to Michigan went exceptionally well. Troy was actually my first location choice so it was very exciting that I found my space so quickly. I’m extremely grateful for how things have fallen into place.
As you know, we’re big fans of Greenleaf Waxing Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a solo esthetician and I primarily focus on body waxing but I also do eyebrow laminations, tinting and facials. I give every client my undivided attention, and try to tailor the experience to each individual. In today’s world, I also feel that it’s important to keep things as organic as possible. We are exposed to so many toxins on a daily basis and the skin is our largest organ. So my thought is simple: less is more. At various times I have made and sold different organic skin care products.. I think what I take the most pleasure and pride in is building the relationships with my clients. I truly enjoy getting to know people. I designed my space to feel like a tropical getaway so my hope is everyone can relax there. I really want to make waxing a stress-free experience.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always open to exploring new avenues. I am essentially a creative type and my business allows me leeway with that. I am a ceramic artist and have dabbled in jewelry making, and I’ve retailed my work at the studio at times. I am always grateful for any support whether that be patronizing the business, referring friends to me, or engaging with my social media. I’m always open to answering any questions. Because I am solo and essentially a one woman show, I encourage people to text for inquiries and appointments. It’s the best way to reach me.
