Conversations with Kimberly Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Edwards.

Hi Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After visiting a friend who had opened an escape room business in a nearby city, I found the experience to be so much fun and rewarding. I was fully engaged in the gameplay and immediately knew I wanted to bring this form of entertainment to our city. I started with a small rental space, and within two years, I had to find a larger location to accommodate the growing demand.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When COVID hit, it nearly shut us down — we were closed for eight long months. Before that, the University of Michigan was our biggest customer, and our rooms were packed with students and staff.

After reopening, we shifted our focus to something new: children’s escape games and birthday adventures. It’s a smaller market, but the joy on kids’ faces makes every challenge worth it.

We design and build every escape room ourselves, from the puzzles to the props. It’s hard work, but seeing families laugh, problem-solve, and celebrate together reminds us why we started this business in the first place.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Before owning Clueless Escape Rooms, my career was in restaurant management.
I’m incredibly thankful for all the opportunities my business has given me — the creativity, the challenges, and the joy it brings to others. I’m very proud of myself and my husband, as we have designed and built seven uniquely themed and very successful escape rooms — all on our own! It’s always challenging work, but that only makes it more rewarding when the very first group steps inside to experience our latest creation.

Best of all, I can proudly say I’ll (hopefully) never have to ask, “Would you like fries with that?” ever again!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Our Location

We’re tucked away on the side of a strip mall, which can make us a little tricky to find at first! Because we’re only permitted limited street-side signage, many of our guests say, “We didn’t even know you were here!”

Once you step inside, you’ll see that we’re not your typical escape room. Our facility is bright, colorful, and open—with 12-foot ceilings that ensure you’ll never feel cramped or claustrophobic. Each of our themed rooms is so immersive that you’ll quickly forget you’re still in Ann Arbor and feel completely transported into another world.

Pricing:

  • $29/person Adelina’s Castle
  • $29/person Castaway Island
  • $29/person Candy Caper
  • $36/person Bear Trap
