Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrea Goucher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Goucher.

Hi Andrea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey as a young mother, looking for a way to contribute financially while still being present for my kids. When my second child was born, I launched a home-based business selling handmade goods, which I ran for 15 years. That experience taught me a lot about perseverance, time management, and juggling multiple responsibilities, lessons that still shape how I approach work today.

In 2021, I decided to continue my education and re-enrolled in community college. After 2020, managing my business became increasingly challenging, and by 2024, I knew it was time for a new path. I took a part-time position with BeneGuides as an assistant and quickly realized how much I loved helping people navigate complex systems and find clarity.

By early 2025, I earned my health insurance license and stepped into my current role as a health insurance agent. Now, I get to do what I truly enjoy: helping people feel confident and supported as they navigate their health coverage. Looking back, every stage, from running my own business to returning to school and starting a new career, taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of connecting with people on a personal level. Those lessons guide how I show up for every client today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Starting and running my own business came with plenty of challenges — constantly balancing home life and work life while trying to give my best to both. When I decided to work outside the home, there was an adjustment period for both me and my family as we settled into a new routine and found our rhythm again.

At the same time, I was finishing my degree, so there was a period where I was juggling a full-time job, a second part-time job, and school. It was one of the busiest seasons of my life, and there were definitely moments when I felt stretched thin and wondered how I’d keep up. But that time taught me so much about perseverance, discipline, and trusting the process. I learned how to prioritize, set boundaries, and stay focused on long-term goals even when things felt overwhelming in the moment.

Looking back, those experiences shaped me into who I am today — more grounded, resilient, and adaptable. They gave me a deep sense of empathy for others who are balancing a lot on their plate, which naturally carries into how I serve my clients. Now that I’ve graduated and can give my full attention to my work as a health insurance agent, life feels more balanced and rewarding, and I’m genuinely grateful for the lessons that came from the tougher seasons.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a health insurance agent, and my work centers on helping people make sense of the often confusing world of health coverage. At our company, we focus on education and guidance — making sure clients truly understand their options and feel confident in the choices they make.

What I love most about my work is the personal connection. Health insurance can feel overwhelming for many people, and I enjoy being that calm, steady voice who helps them find clarity and peace of mind. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the moment when a client truly understands their options — when everything starts to make sense and they feel confident in the decisions they’re making.

What sets me apart is my patience and my genuine care for each client’s situation. I never want anyone to feel rushed or confused. I take the time to explain things in a way that makes sense for them, whether that means breaking down the basics or digging into the details. That personal touch, and the relationships that come from it, are what I’m most proud of.

I’ve learned that this career is as much about compassion and communication as it is about coverage and policies. Helping people feel seen, supported, and informed, especially during stressful transitions, is what truly drives me. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my work can make a complicated process feel manageable and even empowering for someone.

What matters most to you? Why?
My family has always been my top priority. I kept my small business going for as long as I did because I loved the flexibility it gave me. Being able to set my own schedule meant I could drop off and pick up my kids from school, attend their events, and be home whenever they needed me. That flexibility was priceless, and it allowed me to be present during those important moments.

I’m grateful that my current company also values flexibility. As a mom of four, having that balance between work and family has been truly invaluable. At the same time, working full-time has brought a new kind of structure to my routine. It helps me stay organized, focused, and intentional with my time — not just at work, but in my personal life as well.

What matters most to me goes beyond just presence; it’s about being intentional, showing up fully, and making the time I do have meaningful. That perspective carries over into my work as a health insurance agent. I prioritize truly listening to clients, understanding their needs, and being fully present during our conversations. Just as I want to be present for my family, I want every client to feel seen, heard, and supported. Balancing these priorities has taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of focus, and those lessons shape how I live and work every day.
